You can't control everything

One of the hardest lessons in fishkeeping is accepting that sometimes, no matter how much we care, not every fish will survive.

We can provide clean water, proper food, a safe environment, and our best attention—but we can’t control every outcome.

When a fish is lost, it’s okay to feel sad. Don’t let the loss make you feel like you failed. Instead, learn from the experience, improve what you can, and continue giving your remaining fish the care they deserve.

Every fish we care for teaches us something. Every experience makes us better fish keepers.

Sometimes, despite giving our fish the best care we can, not every fish will make it.

What matters is that we keep learning, improve our care, and continue the journey. Every loss can teach us something—and every new day is another chance to do better.

Not every fish will survive—and that doesn’t mean you failed.

As fish keepers, we give our fish the best care we can. We feed them, maintain their water, provide a healthy environment, and watch over them every day.

But sometimes, despite everything we do, we still experience loss.

It hurts. We question ourselves. We wonder what we could have done differently.

But fishkeeping also teaches us something important: we can control the care we give, but we cannot control everything that happens.

Honor the fish you lost. Learn from the experience. And keep caring for the ones still swimming.
