Dog meat consumption and trade is punishable by law.
While we understand that this practice has been done since time immemorial, there are now laws to stop this because DOGS ARE NOT LIVESTOCK or food animals.
This act is prohibited under the Republic Act 8485, or the Animal Welfare Act, as amended by RA 10631, and is punishable with:
a. 1 to 4 years imprisonment and a fine of fifty thousand pesos (50,000.00 PHP) per dog
b. if Cruelty, torture, and maltreatment are established- is punishable with 1 year and 6 months to 4 years imprisonment and/ or a fine ranging from 100,000.00 PHP to 250,000.00 PHP, depending on the severity of the offense
c. if the case involves 3 or more offenders/ 3 or more animal victims/ and if offenders earned from the act- punishable with 2 years and 1 day to 5 years imprisonment and/or a fine not exceeding five hundred thousand pesos (500,000.00 PHP).
Public officials and Government employees are NOT EXEMPTED. They are punishable with the maximum applicable penalty, with the addition of administrative sanctions like dismissal from service or forfeiture of benefits.
Furthermore, the rabies outbreak has been fluctuating since 2023, but is nevertheless recorded in the City.
We urge and appeal to everyone to be responsible pet owners and citizens towards a safe and healthy Laoag City.
Arestado ang isang 65-anyos na lalaki sa isinagawang entrapment operation ng CIDG Ilocos Norte at ng mga awtoridad sa Brgy. 23, Laoag City noong Mayo 14, dahil sa umano’y paglabag sa Anti-Rabies Act of 2007.
Nakumpiska sa operasyon ang hinihinalang karne ng a*o, mga gamit sa pagkatay, limang daang pisong buy-bust money, at isang nakakadena at buhay na babaeng a*o na umano’y nakatakda ring katayin.
Nahaharap ngayon sa ka*ong paglabag sa Republic Act 9482 o Anti-Rabies Act of 2007 ang suspek habang patuloy ang imbestigasyon ng mga awtoridad.
