Pyometra is a serious uterine infection that can become life-threatening, especially in unspayed female dogs and cats.

🩺 𝗟𝗶𝗹𝘆’𝘀 𝗖𝗮𝘀𝗲: 𝗪𝗵𝘆 𝗣𝗿𝗼𝗽𝗲𝗿 𝗗𝗶𝗮𝗴𝗻𝗼𝘀𝘁𝗶𝗰𝘀 𝗠𝗮𝘁𝘁𝗲𝗿

Lily, an 8-year-old intact female dog, was brought to a Beast Friend clinic due to vaginal discharge. She also had swelling in her inguinal mammary area, which her pet owner noticed had been slowly enlarging for more than three years.

To understand what was happening inside Lily’s body, the team performed several diagnostic tests:

• Ultrasound showed an enlarged, fluid-filled uterus with thickened walls and fluid suggestive of pus.
• Bloodwork showed signs of infection and inflammation, along with a low platelet count.
• Pre-anesthetic blood chemistry showed elevated CREA (creatinine), BUN (blood urea nitrogen), and ALP (alkaline phosphatase).
• X-ray findings revealed that both the uterus and urinary bladder had herniated.

After these tests, Lily was diagnosed with 𝗼𝗽𝗲𝗻-𝘁𝘆𝗽𝗲 𝗽𝘆𝗼𝗺𝗲𝘁𝗿𝗮 𝘄𝗶𝘁𝗵 𝗶𝗻𝗴𝘂𝗶𝗻𝗮𝗹 𝗵𝗲𝗿𝗻𝗶𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗼𝗳 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝘂𝘁𝗲𝗿𝘂𝘀 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝘂𝗿𝗶𝗻𝗮𝗿𝘆 𝗯𝗹𝗮𝗱𝗱𝗲𝗿. To address her condition, Lily underwent surgical correction. She was admitted for four days for close monitoring and post-operative care.
