๐ˆ๐‚๐˜๐Œ๐ˆ: The Commanding Officer of Coast Guard Field Veterinary Unit โ€“ Western Visayas (CG FVU-WV), Lieutenant Commander Kirk C. Acdal PCG (DVM), attended the third South East Asian (SEA) Turtle Medical Workshop - Philippines from 01โ€“07 March 2026 hosted by Western Philippines University โ€“ Puerto Princesa Campus, Puerto Princesa City, Palawan.

The workshop was initiated by the Sea Turtle Rescue Alliance(STRA) in collaboration with Large Marine Vertebrates Research Institute Philippines (LAMAVE) and funded by OceanCare bringing together 16 veterinarians - across the country, alongside with colleagues from India ๐Ÿ‡ฎ๐Ÿ‡ณ and Malaysia ๐Ÿ‡ฒ๐Ÿ‡พ to enhance technical knowledge and skills in sea turtle medicine, rescue, and rehabilitation.

Participants also took part in hands-on laboratory sessions and case discussions, as well as a visit to Palawan Wildlife Rescue and Conservation Center, providing practical exposure to wildlife rescue and rehabilitation.

This participation highlights the Philippine Coast Guardโ€™s continued commitment to marine wildlife conservation and environmental protection.

๐ˆ๐‚๐˜๐Œ๐ˆ: The Coast Guard Field Veterinary Unit โ€“ Western Visayas (CG FVU-WV) participated in the Pre-Convention Activity of the 93rd Philippine Veterinary Medical Association (PVMA) Annual Convention and Scientific Conference last 16 February 2026, held at the University of the Philippines Visayas (UPV) Auditorium, General Luna Street, Iloilo City.

The activity was conducted in collaboration with UP Ugnayan ng Pahinungod and the Office of the City Veterinarian โ€“ Iloilo, with the primary objective of promoting animal welfare and responsible pet ownership in the city.

In total, more than 200 dogs and cats were vaccinated, spayed, and neutered, contributing to their health and overall well-being.

This activity reflects the Coast Guard Field Veterinary Unit โ€“ Western Visayas continued dedication to inter-agency cooperation, community engagement, and the promotion of animal welfare.
