🐢🔬𝐅𝐕𝐔-𝐖𝐕 𝐩𝐚𝐫𝐭𝐢𝐜𝐢𝐩𝐚𝐭𝐞𝐬 𝟐𝟎𝟐𝟔 𝐒.𝐄.𝐀. 𝐓𝐮𝐫𝐭𝐥𝐞 𝐌𝐞𝐝𝐢𝐜𝐚𝐥 𝐖𝐨𝐫𝐤𝐬𝐡𝐨𝐩 𝐢𝐧 𝐏𝐚𝐥𝐚𝐰𝐚𝐧

𝐈𝐂𝐘𝐌𝐈: The Commanding Officer of Coast Guard Field Veterinary Unit – Western Visayas (CG FVU-WV), Lieutenant Commander Kirk C. Acdal PCG (DVM), attended the third South East Asian (SEA) Turtle Medical Workshop - Philippines from 01–07 March 2026 hosted by Western Philippines University – Puerto Princesa Campus, Puerto Princesa City, Palawan.

The workshop was initiated by the Sea Turtle Rescue Alliance(STRA) in collaboration with Large Marine Vertebrates Research Institute Philippines (LAMAVE) and funded by OceanCare bringing together 16 veterinarians - across the country, alongside with colleagues from India 🇮🇳 and Malaysia 🇲🇾 to enhance technical knowledge and skills in sea turtle medicine, rescue, and rehabilitation.

Participants also took part in hands-on laboratory sessions and case discussions, as well as a visit to Palawan Wildlife Rescue and Conservation Center, providing practical exposure to wildlife rescue and rehabilitation.

This participation highlights the Philippine Coast Guard’s continued commitment to marine wildlife conservation and environmental protection.

🐾 𝐅𝐕𝐔-𝐖𝐕 𝐩𝐚𝐫𝐭𝐢𝐜𝐢𝐩𝐚𝐭𝐞𝐬 𝐢𝐧 𝟗𝟑𝐫𝐝 𝐏𝐕𝐌𝐀 𝐏𝐫𝐞 𝐂𝐨𝐧 𝐢𝐧 𝐔𝐏 - 𝐕𝐢𝐬𝐚𝐲𝐚𝐬 🐕

𝐈𝐂𝐘𝐌𝐈: The Coast Guard Field Veterinary Unit – Western Visayas (CG FVU-WV) participated in the Pre-Convention Activity of the 93rd Philippine Veterinary Medical Association (PVMA) Annual Convention and Scientific Conference last 16 February 2026, held at the University of the Philippines Visayas (UPV) Auditorium, General Luna Street, Iloilo City.

The activity was conducted in collaboration with UP Ugnayan ng Pahinungod and the Office of the City Veterinarian – Iloilo, with the primary objective of promoting animal welfare and responsible pet ownership in the city.

In total, more than 200 dogs and cats were vaccinated, spayed, and neutered, contributing to their health and overall well-being.

This activity reflects the Coast Guard Field Veterinary Unit – Western Visayas continued dedication to inter-agency cooperation, community engagement, and the promotion of animal welfare.

𝐀 𝐑𝐚𝐲 𝐨𝐟 𝐇𝐨𝐩𝐞 𝐀𝐦𝐢𝐝 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐒𝐭𝐨𝐫𝐦

Amid the aftermath of Typhoon “Tino”, CGDWV personnel came across a stranded dog — scared, cold, but still holding on. Through the compassion and quick action of our Coast Guard rescuers, this brave dog was saved and safely reunited with his grateful owner.

As Tropical Storm Tino approaches, the Coast Guard Field Veterinary Unit – Western Visayas (CG FVU-WV) reminds all pet owners to prioritize the safety of their furry companions. Your pets are part of your family — don’t leave them behind during evacuations or severe weather.

💡 Here are a few reminders to keep your pets safe:

✅ Keep them indoors before and during the storm.
✅ Prepare an emergency kit with food, water, medicine, and leash.
✅ Ensure your pets have identification tags or microchips.
✅ If you evacuate, bring your pets with you.

Together, we can make sure that in every storm — 𝐧𝐨 𝐩𝐞𝐭 𝐢𝐬 𝐥𝐞𝐟𝐭 𝐛𝐞𝐡𝐢𝐧𝐝.

𝐆𝐎𝐎𝐃 𝐍𝐄𝐖𝐒: The Coast Guard Field Veterinary Unit – Western Visayas (CG FVU–WV) received a donation of one (1) desktop computer and one (1) printer from the Air Cavalier Credit Cooperative (ACCC) as part of its logistical support initiative last October 18, 2025.

The said donation was officially turned over in the presence of the Commander and Deputy Commander, Coast Guard District Western Visayas (CGDWV) and the Commanding Officer of FVU-WV.

This act of generosity will greatly enhance the unit’s administrative and operational efficiency in delivering veterinary services, documentation, and coordination activities within its area of responsibility.

The CG FVU–WV expresses its sincere appreciation to the Air Cavalier Credit Cooperative for its continued support and partnership in advancing the Philippine Coast Guard’s mission of service to the nation. 🇵🇭🐾

🐾 𝐂𝐆𝐅𝐕𝐔-𝐖𝐕 𝐜𝐞𝐥𝐞𝐛𝐫𝐚𝐭𝐞𝐬 𝐖𝐨𝐫𝐥𝐝 𝐑𝐚𝐛𝐢𝐞𝐬 𝐃𝐚𝐲 𝟐𝟎𝟐𝟓 𝐢𝐧 𝐒𝐞𝐦𝐢𝐫𝐚𝐫𝐚 𝐈𝐬𝐥𝐚𝐧𝐝

𝐈𝐂𝐘𝐌𝐈: In celebration of World Rabies Day 2025, the Coast Guard Field Veterinary Unit – Western Visayas (CGFVU-WV), together with the Coast Guard Sub-Station Caluya (CGSS Caluya), participated in the Free Anti-Rabies Vaccination and Mass Castration Drive in Semirara Island last September 29, 2025.

The activity was spearheaded by the Barangay Local Government Unit (BLGU) of Semirara, with the active participation of the Office of the Provincial Veterinarian - Province of Antique and CLARS - Center for Living Animals Rehab and Shelter Antique , and support of the Semirara Mining and Power Corporation (SMPC), which forms part of the TANAW (Treatment, Aide, Nutrition and Wellness) flagship project of the BLGU.

This initiative aims to strengthen responsible pet ownership, rabies prevention, and sustainable pet population control in the island, thereby contributing to the nationwide campaign to eliminate rabies and promote animal welfare initiatives.

A total of three hundred three (330) pets availed the services, 277 were vaccinated, and 53 dogs and cats were castrated during the mission.

The Philippine Coast Guard, together with its operational veterinary units around the country, remains committed to serving communities by promoting responsible pet ownership and protecting families against communicable diseases through continuous partnerships and outreach programs.
