Healing journey of our brave Luca, diagnosed with parvovirus, ehrlichiosis, and toxocariasis. 🦠πŸͺ±

Luca is a three-month-old mixed breed puppy with no vaccination or deworming history, presented with a tick infestation and clinical signs of vomiting, bloody diarrhea, lethargy, and inappetence. Fighting just one of these conditions is an uphill battle for any pup, but Luca had to face three massive hurdles all at once that put his little body to the ultimate test. 🫨

Luca has shown incredible strength throughout his confinement and treatment. He is a living testament to why early veterinary intervention, timely vaccinations, and strict parasite prevention are so critical. πŸ’‰

We are overjoyed by his progress and so grateful to witness his journey back to health. You’re a superstar, Luca! 🌟

🐾 Thinking about spaying your female pet? It’s one of the best choices you can make for her long-term health.

Choosing to spay your cat or dog does so much more than just prevent accidental litters. It significantly improves their individual welfare by:

πŸ‘‰ Preventing Life-Threatening Infections: It eliminates the risk of pyometra, a severe and potentially fatal uterine infection.

πŸ‘‰ Lowering Cancer Risks: It dramatically reduces the chances of her developing mammary tumors and reproductive cancers.

πŸ‘‰ Improving Behavior: It curbs hormone-driven "nuisance" behaviors, like frantic roaming, heat cycles, and vocalizing.

Spaying helps your pet live a longer, healthier, and calmer life. Talk to your vet about the best timing for your pet's breed and lifestyle! 🩺❀️

🐸🚨 Bullfrogs (Cane Toads) Poisoning🚨🐢

Now that it’s raining almost every single night lately, frogs seem to be popping up everywhere.
While our local frogs are completely harmless, the Cane Toad (colloquially known as karag, or "bullfrog") is highly toxic and can be fatal to dogs.

This Golden Shepherd was rushed to our clinic in critical condition: laterally recumbent (unable to stand), experiencing acute seizures and heavy, rapid breathing, presenting with brick-red gums, and showing extreme frothing at the mouth after biting a Cane Toad.

In toxicity cases, time is the absolute determining factor for survival. ‼️⏰

πŸ’‘ What Happens During Toad Poisoning?

When a dog bites or licks a Cane Toad, a potent toxin called bufotoxin is squeezed from the glands behind the toad's eyes. This poison absorbs almost instantly through the dog's gums and directly targets their heart and nervous system.

⚠️ Critical First Aid Before Rushing to the Clinic

If you catch your dog mouthing a toad, do not wait for symptoms to start. Act immediately:

1. Wipe the mouth: Take a damp cloth and thoroughly wipe your dog's tongue, gums, and roof of the mouth to physically remove the sticky venom. Rinse the cloth frequently.
2. Point the nose DOWN: If rinsing with water, always keep your dog's snout pointed toward the ground so water runs out of the mouth. NEVER spray a hose or faucet directly down their throat.

πŸ’‰Emergency Treatment: πŸ’‰

Because there is no universal antidote for this toxin, our vet acts fast to stabilize the patient, provide immediate decontamination and aggressive symptomatic treatmentβ€”stabilizing the heart rhythm, administering fast-acting medications to control seizures, and providing intensive IV fluid therapy to support organ function.

We are happy to report that with immediate medical intervention, this brave patient made it through! πŸ™πŸ½

Stay vigilant on evening walks, and keep your pet food and water bowls indoors at night! 🫢🐢
