🚨 A SOFT SHELL IN A YOUNG TORTOISE SHOULD NEVER BE IGNORED! 🐢
Meet Torkoal, a 3–4-month-old tortoise who was brought to us with a soft shell, loss of appetite, and lethargy.
During examination, our team also noted a discolored/hemorrhagic area on the shell. Diagnostic testing, including fecalysis, also showed protozoal organisms and a high bacterial count.
🩺 Torkoal was started on appropriate treatment and nutritional support, with close monitoring recommended.
Proper care and early veterinary attention are especially important for young tortoises, as changes in appetite, activity, or shell condition can be signs of an underlying problem.
🐢 Pet owner reminder:
If your tortoise develops a soft shell, stops eating, becomes unusually weak, or develops changes in its shell, have them checked by a veterinarian promptly.
❤️ Early intervention can make a difference.
