Hatchling Corn Snake Basic Care Sheets
Corn snakes are typically hatched after 58-62days incubation, for about 10-12inches long.
They going to have their first shed for 7-10days before they have their first meal.
Diet/Feeding: Their diet will start at pinky mice and feeding will be every 5days. The size of meal will gradually grow as the hatchlings grows, but always remember, the size of meal won't be larger than the hatchling girth size. They can be fed by live, pre-killed and fozen thawed depends on what makes easier for you. Water bowl with clean water must be available every time, with the size where they can soak their selves on it.
Enclosure: They can keep in different type of enclosures depends on your preferences from branded one to a plastic tub, but don't put them to very large enclosure for you to easily monitor them, and make sure the enclosure is properly ventilated. But most important is, you'll get an escape proof enclosure because they are great escape artist.
Substrate: You can also use different substrates from branded aspen to paper towel, but eliminate the hard and sharp wood shavings during feeding time, it may damage or stuck on their stomach once they ingest it.
Temperature: Locally bred corn snakes are already adopted our temperature (Philippine climate) our typical room temperature is good enough for them, but if you'll put them on air condition room or you're in highland place like (Tagaytay, Baguio etc.) You must use heat pad to help them digest. (Take note the proper use of heat pad, it only use under glass enclo, not inside not on plastic enclo).
Handling: Hatchling corn snakes are skittish but they can easily use by being handle since corn snakes are naturally tamed. By proper handling you must be calm beacause the snake will sense it, the more nervous you are the more nervous they will be. Do not handle newly fed snakes, leave them alone for a day or two as they digest their meal.
Corn snakes are great pet, but you must do your research before getting one, get ready the enclosure and a continuous supply of feeders, before the actual snake.
They will live for about 20yrs, meaning it's a long time commitment.
If you have other question about them feel free to message me on my personal account Bautista Ponce.
(Note: i'm not corn snake expert, just sharing my experiences and helping others by doing a research).
Happy Keeping...
