Husky 🐶 vs. Toad 🐸
Toads may be small, but they can take down animals much larger than themselves—as seen in this recent case of toad poisoning.
Pure, a male Siberian Husky, was found having seizures and foaming at the mouth outside his owner's house. Shortly after, the owners discovered a toad showing signs of having been bitten. Recognizing the emergency, the owners didn't hesitate to rush Pure to Golden Paws Pet Center
Understanding toad poisoning.
Why it’s fatal:
These toads secrete bufotoxins from the parotoid glands located behind their eyes. When a dog bites or licks the toad, the toxin is rapidly absorbed through the gums. The poison targets the heart and central nervous system, often leading to death via cardiac arrest or respiratory failure within 30 to 60 minutes if left untreated
The Recovery
Upon arrival at the clinic, our team immediately managed Pure's clinical signs, administering anti-seizure medication and other necessary treatments. Within 24 hours, Pure began to regain his strength and was able to stand again.
After three days of confinement and close monitoring, Pure went from a recumbent (lying down) state to fully recovered. He is now back home and enjoying every moment with his family.
‼️Reminder: In emergency situations like this, the fastest action is the best action. If your pet encounters a toad, bring them to the nearest veterinary clinic immediately.
