Tyson is partially blind and learning to navigate new environments, he was previously severely neglected but we are giving him a second chance at a new life. In the evolutionary process of dogs becoming the dogs they are today, a lot of people have asked; “Did wolves befriend humans or did humans adopt wolves and domesticate them?” I would estimate that it may be a little bit of both (a commensal pathway). Wolves being the opportunistic creatures they are may have hung around for scraps in some communities. I’m not so sure which communities would have been so accepting of wolves 🐺. I certainly would guess that people may have taken pups into their homes. The question is, did natural selection take part in the adaptive trait of friendly or less fearful dogs that learned to benefit from human companionship and gain scraps, domesticating themselves? Or did humans play a bigger role?

Aspens are indigenous dogs that migrated with the Austronesian ancestors of the Philippines and stem from the Chinese Wolf, as did the Dingo. This rich evolutionary history culminates in our final phase of research at Kingaroo’s Bar, documenting the incredible rescue efforts spearheaded by Colin and Hilda. In doing so, we proudly honor Benny. With his strikingly unique appearance and an aloof, delightfully quirky character, Benny perfectly embodied the independent spirit, profound intelligence, and primitive charm of his ancient ancestors. Through rescues like him, the timeless, unbreakable bond between humans and dogs continues to endure.

For my thesis I had to find recognized theories on how we can predict behavior is genetic based on observation, rather than actual genetic testing. There are many behaviors you can tell are genetic as a dog trainer, especially if the trait is breed specific. I use different ways in my personal evaluations from what is listed below.

What factors make you believe a behavior is genetically influenced, and why?? 🧬

Here are the questions I used based on Konrad Lorenz and Hinde.

Is the behavior:

Species Specific ?
Stereotypic?
Spontaneous?
Independent of Environment (present in each environment)?
Purpose oriented?

Note: I did not use “breed specific” because my study is specific to Philippine Street Dogs (mixed breed dogs) and there is minimal records here for street dog behavior. We do understand things about feralization, however I wanted to evaluate Aspens (PH Street Dogs) from a non-bias perspective?

The dog below is a lovely dog who was thrown out of a window from a moving vehicle as a pup, he’s a super easy going dog with a lovely character, if anyone wants to adopt, let me know as he’s available! The current owner believes he’s a very special dog that will make a family very happy. ❤️🐶❤️ His name is Wags!
