Conclusive report on the Philippine Eagle Sawanga-Dalwangan.

Thanks to the PEF team led by Dominic Tadena, Ron Lemente Taraya and Dr. Danielle Pasion. Thanks to the team at Doc Bayani’s Animal Wellness Clinic for tending to and treating the eagle at the clinic. Thanks to Dr. Vingelle Bautista-Jimenez of the Central Mindanao University College of Veterinary Medicine for helping us process and analyze the tissue samples for histopathology. And thanks to everyone else who supported and took an interest in this case.

We’ve said it before, and we’ll say it again: key to successful treatment is EARLY and PROMPT medical intervention. But we don’t lose hope and carry on. Let’s continue to spread AWARENESS AND SUPPORT for the conservation efforts of our national bird.

Some journeys deserve to be celebrated. ❤️

Back in August 2019, Abby became the very first veterinary technologist to join our clinic. As our pioneering vet tech, she helped establish the standards that would shape our tech and nursing team for years to come. She set the bar high from the very beginning, and every vet tech who joined after her has benefited from the example she set.

Over the years, we’ve had the privilege of watching Abby grow—not only as a veterinary professional, but also in her personal life. We celebrated with her as she got married, and more recently, as she welcomed her first child into the world.

Fresh from maternity leave, Abby wasted no time making an impact. She returned to the profession by taking the stage as one of the featured speakers at the Royal Canin Clinic Excellence Program, held in partnership with the Philippine Veterinary Technologists and Nurses Association (PVTNA). She joined veterinary professionals from across the country to share knowledge and help fulfill the program’s goal of “Elevate Every Interaction, Empower Every Recommendation.”

Seeing Abby represent not only herself but also our clinic on a national stage is a proud moment for all of us.

At our clinic, we believe that investing in our people is one of the best ways to invest in better patient care. Abby’s journey is a reflection of that belief, and we’re excited to continue supporting her as she grows in both her career and her family life.

“The bird was reported to PEF at around 11a.m., then before midnight nasa clinic na ni Doc Bayani (Vandenbroeck). If nadelay pa ‘yan ng two days baka ang mga maggots nasa loob na ng katawan ng bird and it would be too late,” said PEF Director of Operations Dr. Jayson Ibanez

Veterinarian Bayani Vandenbroeck recalled that the eagle named Sawaga-Dalwangan was in bad shape when he arrived here.

Vandenbroeck added the bird was covered in mud and infested with maggots. “We think if another 24 to 48 hours had passed, we could have lost it.”

A proud day for our clinic family. 🎓🐾

Last year, Sherra and Gerald joined us as vet tech interns from the University of Southern Mindanao - College of Veterinary Medicine. They performed so well that we hired them even before they graduated.

Today, we celebrated as they officially earned their degrees—all while successfully balancing work at the clinic and completing their thesis.

It was also my first visit to USM after many years of welcoming both their vet and vet tech interns into our clinic. Seeing so many familiar faces graduate, and meeting professors, some of whom were also our clinic interns themselves, was a wonderful reminder of how small and connected the veterinary community really is.

Congratulations, Sherra, Gerald, and the entire Class of 2026. We’re honored to have been part of your journey. 👏👏👏

At Doc Bayani’s Animal Wellness Clinic, our journey into advanced veterinary cardiology has been years in the making.

It began in 2022, when we took a decisive step forward by hosting our first in-house cardiology lecture and workshop under Dr. Karlo Gicana. From that point on, Doc Jun took a deep and focused interest in diagnosing and managing heart conditions in pets.

His commitment only grew stronger:
• In 2024, he was selected as a participant in the pioneering Cardiology Training for Philippine Veterinarians at Chulalongkorn University in Bangkok
• He recently completed the first Master Systemic Course for Cardiology in Manila
• And most notably, he served as a speaker in this month’s nationwide webinar, Advancing Cardiac Competence, alongside some of the country’s leading veterinary cardiologists 👏👏👏
