I have to re-post this time and again...Veterinary Medicine is not all about magic...
I am a veterinarian...
A Veterinarian is a General Physician, Gynaecologist, Dermatologist, Pediatrician, Pathologist, Bacteriologist, Virologist, Anaesthetist, Radiologist, General Surgeon, Orthopaedic Surgeon, Neurologist, Oncologist, Opthalmologist and many... of Cow, Buffalo, Goat, Sheep, Dog, Cat, Horse, Rabbit, Hen, Pet birds, all wild life species.
Moreover, A Veterinarian is a Nutritionist, Poultry specialist, Wild life worker, Food technologist, Extension Worker, Researcher, Administrator, Law Enforcer, Epidemiologist just to mention a few.
This is not to prove that a Veterinarian knows everything, but every body should feel that it is not that easy to remember all these subjects inside a single brain and to apply them in practical field.
Do you expect a human Dermatologist to perform an intramedullary pinning or any other Orthopaedic surgery??? Or a human Nutritionist to perform an Eye Surgery or a Caesarian Section?? OR will you visit an Anaesthetist for a Chemotherapy??... YES, a Veterinarian can, rolled into one.
A Veterinarian have to attend all the diseases in Rat, feathered and marine animals to Elephant and also have to fight with deadly Zoonotic diseases like Avian influenza, Anthrax, Rabies etc.
Sometimes people present patients in so bad condition that becomes very difficult to cure. Some diseases like Parvo Virus, CD, ICH, IRT, Panleukopenia, BQ, Anthrax, Tetanus, RD, DP, PPR, severe brain injury, Renal failure, Cardiac arrest, Severe injury from road accidents and so many are almost non-curable.
But some people used to say that "the Veterinarian killed my dog" !!! Sometimes they used to say that "the Veterinarian has done a wrong treatment" !!!
Is it enough or appropriate that a Google University educated "Animal lover" or "owner" to know this vast science to judge a Veterinarian????
It really hurts when you cure more than 1000 patients and you are blammed only if 1 or 2 expires which were in bad condition.
Veterinarians are not God that they will cure everything.
Yes, we are trained to alleviate the sufferings of animals, but our existence was not meant to do a miracle.
Veterinary Medicine is not all about magic.
I love my profession and I am proud to be a Veterinarian.
My appeal to all Veterinarians to serve this profession with PRIDE and with KINDNESS and LOVE to animals.
We should correct the faults and miss arrangements at our end and upgrade our KNOWLEDGE and SKILL day by day.
My appeal to all Animal lovers, pet owners, Animal Welfare Advocates, please trust your Veterinarian and keep faith on Science.
PLEASE, don't Google Medical or Veterinary Science, it is not a one liner nor a 5 minutes browsing marathon, it is a detailed, explanatory and comparative science that will take you years to master.
