A heart-wrenching incident of animal cruelty was captured on CCTV in San Mateo, Rizal, after a local resident found a familiar community cat—one his daughter regularly fed—dead right outside their home.

On July 20, 2026 (~12:35 AM): CCTV footage shows 𝗮 𝗺𝗮𝗻 𝘀𝗽𝗿𝗮𝘆𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗰𝗮𝘁 𝘄𝗶𝘁𝗵 𝗮 𝗵𝗶𝗴𝗵-𝗽𝗿𝗲𝘀𝘀𝘂𝗿𝗲 𝘄𝗮𝘁𝗲𝗿 𝗵𝗼𝘀𝗲. As the cat tried to run away, the man chased it down and struck it with a walis-tingting. Suspecting foul play due to previous similar incidents in front of his house, the resident checked the newly installed cameras, confirming his worst fears.

On July 29, 2026, 𝗮 𝗳𝗼𝗿𝗺𝗮𝗹 𝗰𝗿𝗶𝗺𝗶𝗻𝗮𝗹 𝗰𝗮𝘀𝗲 𝘄𝗮𝘀 𝗼𝗳𝗳𝗶𝗰𝗶𝗮𝗹𝗹𝘆 𝗳𝗶𝗹𝗲𝗱 by the resident in partnership with Animal Kingdom Foundation (AKF) to hold the perpetrator accountable under the Animal Welfare Act.

Animal abuse has no place in our communities. We hope for swift justice for this innocent soul.

Cats may seem independent and mysterious, but research suggests they have a strong memory when it comes to the humans who treat them well 🐱. Multiple behavioral studies have shown that cats are capable of forming long-term social memories, allowing them to recognize and remember people who have shown them kindness, care, and affection.

Scientists studying feline cognition have found that cats can remember voices, faces, and routines associated with their owners. In experiments, many cats responded more strongly to the voice of their caregiver than to strangers, even when they couldn’t see the person. This indicates that cats store detailed memories of the humans they interact with regularly.

Animal behavior experts also believe positive experiences—such as feeding, gentle touch, and safety—create emotional associations that cats retain over time. Even cats that become separated from their owners for long periods have been known to recognize them years later.

While cats express affection differently than dogs, their bonds with humans can be just as meaningful. Beneath that calm, aloof exterior is an animal capable of remembering kindness for a very long time. In their quiet way, cats often carry those memories with them throughout their lives. 🐾

💛🖤🧡

Orange fur in cats is linked to a gene carried on the X chromosome. Male cats have only one X chromosome, so if they inherit the orange gene, they will usually be entirely orange. Female cats have two X chromosomes, meaning they can carry both orange and black genes at the same time. This combination creates mixed coat patterns like tortoiseshell or calico, where patches of orange and black appear together. Because of this genetic difference, most orange cats are male, while most tortoiseshell and calico cats are female.
