❌Holiday Foods That Can Harm Pets❌
Keep Dogs and Cats Safe This Sea*on
During the holiday sea*on, exercise extreme caution when giving dogs human food, as many common ingredients are toxic or can cause severe health issues like pancreatitis or kidney failure. It is safest to avoid table scraps entirely and stick to dog-specific treats or small portions of plain, unsea*oned safe foods.
Toxic and Unsafe Foods to Avoid
‼️Alcohol - Even small amounts can cause intoxication, vomiting, and potentially fatal central nervous system depression.
‼️Bones - Cooked bones from poultry or ham can easily splinter and cause choking or serious internal injuries and blockages.
‼️Chocolate, Coffee, & Caffeine - These contain theobromine and caffeine, which dogs cannot metabolize effectively. Ingestion can cause panting, excessive thirst, hyperactivity, tremors, seizures, and even death.
‼️Fatty Foods & Gravy Rich - fatty items like turkey skin, ham, and gravies can trigger pancreatitis, a painful inflammation of the pancreas that often requires hospitalization.
‼️Grapes, Raisins, & Currants - Found in many fruitcakes, stuffing, and desserts, these can cause acute kidney failure in dogs, even in small quantities.
‼️Onions, Garlic, Chives, & Leeks - The entire Allium family of vegetables is toxic, whether raw, cooked, or powdered. They damage a dog's red blood cells, leading to anemia.
‼️Nuts - Especially macadamia nuts and walnuts, which can cause weakness, vomiting, and neurological symptoms. All nuts are high in fat and can pose a choking hazard.
‼️Raw Yeast Dough - The dough can rise in the dog's warm stomach, causing painful bloating and potential stomach twisting, while the fermenting yeast produces alcohol that can lead to alcohol poisoning.
‼️Xylitol (Artificial Sweetener) - A common sugar substitute in sugar-free gum, candy, and some baked goods, it is extremely toxic to dogs and can cause a rapid, life-threatening drop in blood sugar and liver failure.
