This is the Grey bloodline I made over time in the span of 9 years. The best Greys coming in Yellow Legs & Green Legs out of Harold Brown Grey BC GL and Lemon McLean BH GL I ever saw put together. Crossed that with a Silver Frost Grey BC YL and a Joe Goode Grey Hen WL. Tested their offsprings within 3 years and got good results. Now on the 8th year of breeding those brood stocks, I have finally got what I want, my own creation.

Up next, the Wine Red White Legged Fowls
(still on the 6th year of breeding).
🧬 What Traits Come From the Hen vs. the Rooster in Gamefowl Breeding?
📌 The Hen’s Influence (Mother)
The mother hen contributes just as much genetic material as the rooster overall, but there are some special factors only she can pass on:
✅ Hen’s Unique Contributions:
1. Mitochondrial DNA (mtDNA)
Only passed from the mother.
Controls energy production, endurance, recovery time—vital in a long drag-out fight.
A high-quality hen = stamina in the bloodline.
2. Temperament & Broodiness
Hens with calm, protective instincts tend to pass down that focused, non-wild behavior.
Can influence how chicks respond to handling and early training.
3. Egg Size and Early Health
Bigger, nutrient-rich eggs = stronger chicks.
Her health and diet directly impact development in the egg stage.
✅ Rooster’s Unique Contributions (Father)
1. Y-Chromosome (Sex-Linked Traits)
He determines s*x of the offspring (hens vs stags).
Some plumage and color traits are s*x-linked—passed through him.
2. Fighting Style / Game
Roosters often pass down more aggression, cut, and style—especially if it’s in his bloodline.
If he’s a high-performer, odds are his sons will carry that drive.
3. Bone Structure & Posture
Roosters tend to give offspring their build—wide shoulders, thick thighs, neck carriage.

“You’re not just breeding to the cock—you’re breeding to his mother and grandmother too.”
So always check the hen side of the pedigree. Great stags often come from hen lines that were tight, tested, and selected just as hard. Keep em crowing
