I recently came across an opinion saying that a veterinary clinic should not look like a pet shop.

I understand the point. Veterinary medicine is a profession. Clinics should prioritize diagnostics, treatment, prevention, proper facilities, and patient care.

But I strongly disagree with the idea that selling dog food, collars, leashes, treats, or other pet products somehow diminishes the professionalism of a veterinary clinic.

When a dog has been constipated for several days, seeing a colon packed with f***s on an X-ray is easy. The more important question is:

Is this still constipation, or has the colon progressed to megacolon?

One useful radiographic clue is sitting right beside it: the seventh lumbar vertebra, or L7.
