⚠️ SENSITIVE CASE | MYIASIS ⚠️

At ROYAL PAWS VETERINARY HOSPITAL, we recently handled a very challenging case involving a dog with severe maggot infestation (myiasis)!!!

Our veterinary team performed manual retrieval and surgical wound management, carefully removing numerous maggots from the affected areas, thoroughly cleaning the wounds, and providing the patient with the necessary medications, pain management, and supportive care.

🐾 What is Myiasis?
Maggot infestation occurs when flies lay eggs on open wounds, moist skin, or neglected areas of the body. Once the eggs hatch, the larvae feed on damaged tissue, causing severe pain and discomfort, extremely foul odor, severe tissue destruction, infection, and sometimes, life-threatening complications if left untreated.

This case is a reminder to all furparents:
✔️ Check your pets daily, especially if they have wounds, skin infections, or matted fur.
✔️ Keep your pet clean and dry.
✔️ Seek veterinary attention immediately if you notice wounds, swelling, discharge, or moving larvae.
✔️ Regular grooming and routine veterinary check-ups can help prevent cases like this.

RAINY DAY SEASON REMINDER FOR FURPARENTS 🌧️🐾

The rainy season is here, and while we enjoy the cool weather, our beloved pets may become more prone to colds, skin infections, parasites, and other weather-related illnesses. Keep your fur babies safe and comfortable with these simple reminders:

Keep them dry . Always dry your pet thoroughly after walks or accidental exposure to rain, especially the paws, ears, and belly.

Provide a warm resting area . Avoid letting pets sleep on cold or damp floors. Use clean, dry bedding and ensure proper ventilation.

Stay updated on parasite prevention . Fleas, ticks, mosquitoes, and worms become more active during wet weather. Regular deworming and parasite control are essential.

Watch for skin and ear problems. Excess moisture can lead to itching, redness, bad odor, hair loss, or ear infections. Seek veterinary advice if you notice any of these signs.

Maintain good nutrition and hydration – A balanced diet and adequate water intake help strengthen your pet’s immune system during the season.

Keep vaccinations updated – Protect your pets from preventable diseases by ensuring their vaccinations are current.

Seek veterinary attention immediately if your pet shows:
• Loss of appetite
• Vomiting or diarrhea
