Patient Update: SC 🐾

SC, a 6-year-old female Dachshund+Pug mix, was brought to our clinic after previously being treated. Despite earlier treatment, she continued to experience loss of appetite, weakness, and occasional convulsions, and her condition was unfortunately getting worse.

After a thorough examination and diagnostics, we discovered that SC was suffering from a severe infection caused by pyometra, a serious and life-threatening uterine infection that requires immediate medical attention.

SC underwent emergency surgery, and we’re happy to share that the procedure went smoothly. She stayed with us for 3 days of post-operative care before being discharged to continue her recovery at home.

Today, SC returned for her follow-up checkup, and we’re pleased to report that her condition has significantly improved. She is responding well and is on her way to a full recovery.

Thank you to SC’s family for trusting us with her care. Early intervention and proper treatment can make all the difference.

Wishing you a speedy and complete recovery, SC!

🐾 Emergency C-Section for Peanut 🐾

Last March 2,2026, we had an emergency case involving Peanut, a 2-year-old Dachshund, who was expected to give birth soon. An ultrasound performed the day before indicated that she would likely deliver within 36 hours.

However, after being in labor for more than 2 hours without delivering, Peanut began experiencing difficulty giving birth (dystocia). She was brought to the clinic confused, exhausted, and in distress, requiring immediate medical attention.

After careful examination, our team performed an emergency C-section to save both Peanut and her puppies. During the procedure, four healthy puppies were successfully retrieved.

An ovariohysterectomy (spay) was also performed to help prevent similar life-threatening complications in the future and to ensure Peanut’s long-term health.

Peanut showed incredible strength throughout the procedure, and our team worked quickly to ensure the best possible outcome for her and her puppies. Cases like this remind us how critical timely veterinary care can be during whelping.

Please keep Peanut and her four little ones in your thoughts as they recover. 💛🐾

Meet brave little Raito 🐾💙

Raito, a 1 month old kitten, was diagnosed with Atresia Ani — a congenital condition where the a**l opening fails to develop properly, preventing normal defecation. Without surgical correction, this condition can quickly become life-threatening.

Prior to coming to Vet Crest Animal Emergency Center, Raito had already undergone an atresia ani repair at a different practice. Unfortunately, the initial procedure was unsuccessful, and she continued to have difficulty passing stool. Seeking a second opinion, her owner brought her to us for further evaluation and revision surgery to correct the defect and restore proper function.

Raito successfully underwent a reconstructive Anoplasty performed under strict sterile protocol with careful anesthetic monitoring. The procedure involved reconstructing and creating a functional a**l opening to restore normal stool passage and improve her overall quality of life.

We’re happy to share that Raito is now recovering at home and is now defecating and urinating normally — a huge milestone for this little fighter! 🥹💙

We’re so proud of you, Raito. Your strength reminds us why we do what we do 💗

Dystocia in Cats

Last night was an emergency case we won’t soon forget.

Luna, a 2-year-old pregnant cat, was expecting two kittens. She was able to deliver the first kitten normally, but the second kitten remained in labor for 9 long hours.
An ultrasound revealed that the remaining kitten had a weak heartbeat and was already in distress. With both Luna and her kitten’s lives at risk, we made the urgent decision to proceed with a cesarean section.

To ensure Luna’s safety and prevent future complications, an ovariohysterectomy was also performed.

We’re happy to share that Luna made it through surgery safely, and even better news, she was discharged the next morning.

It was a critical night, but timely intervention made all the difference.

Please keep Luna and her little one in your thoughts as they continue to recover.

Meet Hunter, our sweet and resilient 6-year-old male Pug.

On February 17, 2026, Hunter underwent a Scrotal Ablation and Urethrostomy due to an obstructing urolithiasis. What started as a serious and painful condition quickly became an urgent situation, but Hunter faced it with courage every step of the way.

Thanks to the unwavering support and dedication of Hunter’s owners, our beloved patient received the expert care he needed. The procedure went well, and he is now recovering comfortably and showing his usual sweet personality.

🚨 𝐒𝐚𝐦𝐞 𝐄𝐦𝐞𝐫𝐠𝐞𝐧𝐜𝐲, 𝐓𝐡𝐫𝐞𝐞 𝐃𝐢𝐟𝐟𝐞𝐫𝐞𝐧𝐭 𝐒𝐭𝐨𝐫𝐢𝐞𝐬 🚨

Over the past days, three female dogs—Misty, Roxy, and Cici—were brought to Vet Crest Animal Emergency Center with the same life-threatening condition: 𝓹𝔂𝓸𝓶𝓮𝓽𝓻𝓪.

Although the diagnosis was the same, each patient presented differently:
• Misty – Closed-type pyometra with recurrent 𝙢𝙖𝙢𝙢𝙖𝙧𝙮 𝙩𝙪𝙢𝙤𝙧
• Roxy – Pyometra complicated by a 𝙪𝙩𝙚𝙧𝙞𝙣𝙚 𝙢𝙖𝙨𝙨 𝙖𝙣𝙙 𝙞𝙣𝙩𝙚𝙨𝙩𝙞𝙣𝙖𝙡 𝙖𝙙𝙝𝙚𝙨𝙞𝙤𝙣
• Cici – 𝙊𝙥𝙚𝙣-𝙩𝙮𝙥𝙚 pyometra

Pyometra can present in different ways, including open or closed-type infections and cases complicated by uterine masses or mammary tumors—but all require urgent, life-saving surgical intervention 🚨

All three patients underwent emergency surgery, along with close monitoring and post-operative care. Thanks to timely recognition and decisive treatment, all surgeries were successful.

Misty, Roxy, and Cici are now safely home with their families and recovering well 💛

These cases serve as an important reminder:
Pyometra does not always look the same, but it is always an emergency. Any unspayed female dog showing lethargy, loss of appetite, abdominal enlargement, or vaginal discharge should be seen by a veterinarian immediately.

We thank the families for acting fast and trusting our emergency team 💗

🚨🍫 𝐂𝐡𝐨𝐜𝐨𝐥𝐚𝐭𝐞 𝐓𝐨𝐱𝐢𝐜𝐢𝐭𝐲 𝐢𝐧 𝐝𝐨𝐠𝐬: 𝐇𝐚𝐫𝐩𝐞𝐫 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐆𝐲𝐩𝐬𝐲’𝐬 𝐒𝐮𝐜𝐜𝐞𝐬𝐬𝐟𝐮𝐥 𝐑𝐞𝐜𝐨𝐯𝐞𝐫𝐲 🐾

Harper and Gipsy finally got the all-clear! They were both rushed in as an emergency after accidentally eating chocolate, which is toxic for dogs ⚠️

After careful monitoring, supportive care, and treatment for chocolate poisoning symptoms overnight, they are now stable and ready to go home to recover safely with their loving family 💗

🍫 𝗖𝗵𝗼𝗰𝗼𝗹𝗮𝘁𝗲 contains theobromine and caffeine, which dogs can't metabolize well. Depending on the amount and type of chocolate consumed, signs can range from vomiting and restlessness to seizures and heart problems, which is why immediate veterinary care is crucial‼️

If your pet eats chocolate or any suspicious food, don’t wait. Have them checked right away. Early treatment makes a big difference.
