Some important reminders from the updated guideline include:

• 𝗥𝗮𝗯𝗶𝗲𝘀 𝘃𝗶𝗿𝘂𝘀 𝗰𝗮𝗻 𝗯𝗲 𝘀𝗵𝗲𝗱 𝗶𝗻 𝘀𝗮𝗹𝗶𝘃𝗮 𝗯𝗲𝗳𝗼𝗿𝗲 𝗰𝗹𝗶𝗻𝗶𝗰𝗮𝗹 𝘀𝗶𝗴𝗻𝘀 𝗮𝗽𝗽𝗲𝗮𝗿, allowing transmission during the preclinical stage.
• 𝗔𝗽𝗽𝗿𝗼𝘅𝗶𝗺𝗮𝘁𝗲𝗹𝘆 𝟵𝟬% 𝗼𝗳 𝗿𝗮𝗯𝗶𝗱 𝗰𝗮𝘁𝘀 𝗱𝗲𝘃𝗲𝗹𝗼𝗽 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗳𝘂𝗿𝗶𝗼𝘂𝘀 𝗳𝗼𝗿𝗺, making sudden behavioral changes and aggression the most common clinical presentation.
• 𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝗮𝘃𝗲𝗿𝗮𝗴𝗲 𝗶𝗻𝗰𝘂𝗯𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗽𝗲𝗿𝗶𝗼𝗱 𝗶𝘀 𝗮𝗽𝗽𝗿𝗼𝘅𝗶𝗺𝗮𝘁𝗲𝗹𝘆 𝟮 𝗺𝗼𝗻𝘁𝗵𝘀, 𝗯𝘂𝘁 𝗶𝘁 𝗰𝗮𝗻 𝗿𝗮𝗻𝗴𝗲 𝗳𝗿𝗼𝗺 𝟮 𝘄𝗲𝗲𝗸𝘀 𝘁𝗼 𝗺𝗮𝗻𝘆 𝗺𝗼𝗻𝘁𝗵𝘀.
• Rabies should be considered in unvaccinated outdoor cats living in or returning from endemic areas that present with sudden behavioral abnormalities—particularly aggression—along with progressive paresis, paralysis, or other signs of acute encephalitis.
• Definitive diagnosis still relies on post-mortem laboratory testing.
• Rabies is an incurable disease, and 𝗱𝗲𝗮𝘁𝗵 𝘁𝘆𝗽𝗶𝗰𝗮𝗹𝗹𝘆 𝗼𝗰𝗰𝘂𝗿𝘀 𝘄𝗶𝘁𝗵𝗶𝗻 𝟯–𝟰 𝗱𝗮𝘆𝘀 (𝗿𝗮𝗻𝗴𝗲 𝟭–𝟭𝟬 𝗱𝗮𝘆𝘀) 𝗮𝗳𝘁𝗲𝗿 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗼𝗻𝘀𝗲𝘁 𝗼𝗳 𝗰𝗹𝗶𝗻𝗶𝗰𝗮𝗹 𝘀𝗶𝗴𝗻𝘀.
• Rabies vaccination remains highly effective and is recommended for cats at risk of exposure, as well as those traveling internationally, in accordance with local regulations.

The updated guideline provides a comprehensive review of the current evidence on feline rabies, covering epidemiology, clinical presentation, diagnosis, vaccination, prevention, and disease control.
