How big can goldfish get?

It may come as a surprise that your gf can get as big as 2 inches to 10 inches within a few months or years, just like what we have here right now 👇👇👇

Do you know why gf get so big?

It's because they originate from common carp which grow to a whopping 2 1/2 feet in the wild. This explains why the captive-bred carp as colorful gf grow to 1/3 of that size.

Trivia for the day:

Bala Sharks

This Southeast Asian fish are not true sharks, but their shark-like appearance make it appear to be true sharks. What's interesting is that these species are peaceful and they thrive in a community tank (as you can see in the video). As they mature however, they will grow as big as 13 inches, so they will need bigger tank.

Tip of the day:

Do you want a pond or aquarium full of prize winning fish?

Frequent culling is the secret. Culling is a process where you get to choose which ones are worth keeping and which ones are not worth the effort.

In this video I will be showing you how I cull the goldfish fry for growing. I specifically want to choose one goldfish variant called calico, which comes in a variety of goldfish breeds, like telescope eyes, ryukins, fantails and oranda.

How to identify the calico fry:
1. Scaleless
2. Black patches across the body or early development of red marks
3. Double tail which looks like an "X" from behind

Note: culling is easy, but it takes a lot of effort and time to do it. More so, lots of patience and passion is important in this process :)

Today's trivia: Social (barkadista)

We commonly call a group of fish "school of fish". Mollies are "shoaling fish", which means that that they tend to travel in groups, and they do so for "social" purposes and not only for traveling in one directions.

The most distinguishable characteristics of a male against female molly is the rod-shaped organ of the male, which is used to deposit s***m in the female mollies.

Mollies are known for their calm and peaceful nature. They have varied colors, and the most common of them are black, white and yellow mollies. They thrive in freshwater and saltwater as well.

Did you know that koi history was far back as the 4th century, which originated from China. While Japan introduced the modern Japanese koi believed to date back to early 19th century.

Did you know that rice farmers from Japan were the ones who kept and bred them, which has been passed down to new generations after the WWII. The reason why until now kois are existing and has become a popular hobby of the most of us.

Did you know that the variety of colors of koi descended from the solid black carp. The color mutation of kois nowadays is a product of cross-breeding.

Took a snippet of our farm today while feeding our 7-10 inches kois.
