Castration or "neutering", is the surgical removal of te**es. While it is commonly associated with preventing unwanted breeding, its importance goes 𝓫𝓮𝔂𝓸𝓷𝓭 𝓹𝓸𝓹𝓾𝓵𝓪𝓽𝓲𝓸𝓷 𝓬𝓸𝓷𝓽𝓻𝓸𝓵

For male dogs, castration helps prevent or manage several reproductive conditions and eliminates the risk of diseases that originates in the te**es.

𝐖𝐇𝐀𝐓 𝐂𝐀𝐍 𝐇𝐀𝐏𝐏𝐄𝐍 𝐓𝐎 𝐀𝐍 𝐈𝐍𝐓𝐀𝐂𝐓 𝐌𝐀𝐋𝐄 𝐃𝐎𝐆 𝐀𝐒 𝐇𝐄 𝐀𝐆𝐄𝐒?
The risk of certain reproductive diseases increases within age, particularly diseases involving the prostate.
1. Cryptorchidism - or or both testicles fail to descend into the scortum. Retained te**es have an increased risk of testicular tumors and should be removed.
2. Testicular trauma, inflammation or torsion - Can cause painful swelling and damage to the testicle.
3. Benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH) - a hormone-dependent enlargement of the prostate and the most common prostatic disorder in intact male dogs. Chages can nbegin as early as 2.5 years, while cystic changes become more common about 4 years and up. Some dogs remain asymptomatic while others develop blood in urine, blood in semen, bloody preputial discharge, difficulty defecating or infertility.
4. Prostatitis - bacterial inflammation or infection of the prostate. Prostate enlargement can also develop silently before obvious clinical signs appear
5. Prostatis cyst or abscess
6. Testicular tumors - particularly in senior males
7. Prostatic cancers

LAKI'S LACERATED SC***UM, EXPOSING THE TESTICLE: A SMALL GAP, WITH A SERIOUS INJURY

Laki was brought to us after his sc***um was lacerated by a hard wire, causing significant injury to the scrotal tissue, damaging his exposed testicle.

Because the testicle has sustained traumatic injury, although minimal, it was no longer safely protected, in which castration was performed to remove the damaged reproductive tissue, This is to control the injury, reducing the risk of infection and further complications, and to allow the wound to heal properly.

Thankfully, Laki received the surgical care he needed.

A gentle reminder for fur parents:
Hard wires, exposed metals, broken fences, protruding cables and other sharp materials around the home and especially in cages that are hidden, can become hazardous to our pets. This may cause:
- Cuts and lacerations
- Puncture wounds
- Damage to the organ cut or punctured
- Deep tissue damage and bleeding
- Infection if not treated proptly

If you see an exposed sharp wires, objects or loose metals, please remove it before they get injured. If your pet suffers a deep wound, do not wait for it to heal on its own, seek veterinary attention as soon as possible, especially when bleeding, with an exposed tissue, in severe pain, swelling or wound involving reproductive organs

After a week of medication, his wound has fully healed and he is back to his old self! We're proud of you Laki!

HERNIA or "LUSLOS" in tagalog: What Is It and When Should You Worry?

A hernia occurs when an internal organ or tissue pushes through a weakened area in the muscle or connective tissue that normally holds it in place. They can be present from birth or develop later due to trauma, increased abdominal pressure, pregnancy, or other factors.

Here are the common types of hernia:
1. Umbilical hernia - Usually appears as a soft lump around the belly button. It is one of the most common hernias seen in puppies.
2. Inguinal hernia - Occurs in the groin area. Abdominal fat, intestines, bladder, or other tissues may protrude through the inguinal canal.
3. Perineal hernia - Occurs beside the a**s and is more commonly seen in older, intact male dogs. Abdominal or pelvic organs may become displaced into the area.
4. Diaphragmatic hernia - Occurs when abdominal organs move into the chest through an opening in the diaphragm. Trauma, particularly being hit by a vehicle, is a common cause and this type can be an emergency.
5. Incisional hernia -May develop at the site of a previous abdominal surgery if the surgical tissues do not heal properly.

The photo below is an example of an Inguinal hernia! 🐶 In this case, the patient's uterus and some fatty abdominal tissues were seen during the surgical repair

What can you notice as an owner?
• A soft or firm lump
• A swelling that becomes more noticeable when standing, moving, or straining
• A lump that may change in size
• Mild discomfort around the area
• In some cases, no obvious signs other than the lump itself

🚨 WHEN CAN A HERNIA BECOME LIFE-THREATENING?
The major concern is when an organ — becomes TRAPPED inside the hernia and loses its blood supply. This is called an incarcerated or strangulated hernia and requires urgent veterinary attention. Patients may feel discomfort, repeated vomiting or retching, loss of appetite and weakness

These signs can indicate that the hernia contents are trapped or that the intestine's blood supply has been compromised.

If your dog or cat develops a new lump — have it checked by a veterinarian. Early assessment can help determine whether the hernia is uncomplicated or whether urgent treatment is needed.

🐱 Cystic Ovaries in Cats: What Cat Owners Should Know

Ovarian cysts are fluid-filled structures that can develop on or within a cat’s ovaries. Some may cause no obvious problems, while others can interfere with normal reproductive hormone activity and lead to reproductive or uterine disease.

🔎 Common clinical signs may include:
• Persistent, irregular, prolonged and repeated signs of heat
• Restlessness, increased vocalization, or increased affection
• Abnormal reproductive discharge
• Abdominal discomfort or enlargement
• Infertility or difficulty becoming pregnant
• Lethargy, poor appetite, vomiting, or fever — particularly if a uterine infection develops

🩺 Conditions that may occur alongside ovarian cysts
1. Cystic endometrial hyperplasia (CEH) - thickening of the uterus; non-cancerous
2. Pyometra - life-threatening infection of the uterus

Any cat showing the listed clinical signs should be checked immediately. Diagnosis may involve a physical examination, reproductive history, bloodwork, and abdominal ultrasound.

Can ovarian cysts be prevented? YES! This can be prevented through ovariohysterectomy or spaying. This eliminated ovarian cyst formation and reducing the risk for pyometra

If your cat is showing unusual reproductive signs, consult your veterinarian for proper diagnosis and treatment. 👩‍⚕️

NOT ALL BLOODY URINE IS CAUSED BY LOW PLATELET COUNTS OR URINARY STONES! 🐶🐾

With the InMorph by GlinX, designed to support a more efficient, precise, and modern veterinary service, we can identify the type of crystals present in your pet’s urine through its urine analyzer. This provides valuable information that can help support the assessment of your pet’s urinary health.

This patient was brought to our clinic due to an intermittent tinge of blood in the urine that had been occurring for several months. No urinary stones were visible during ultrasonography, but the urinary bladder appeared thickened, with snowflake-like structures observed within the bladder.

The patient’s platelet count was also within the normal range, making low platelet count less likely to be the cause of the bleeding.

Further blood examination showed evidence of infection. Urinalysis revealed the presence of crystalluria, along with an increased bacterial count.

This case reminds us that blood in the urine (hematuria) can have several possible causes, including urinary tract infections, crystals, bladder inflammation, stones, and other urinary tract conditions. Proper examination and diagnostic testing are important to determine the underlying cause and provide appropriate treatment.

If your pet is struggling to urinate, urinating frequently, showing signs of pain while urinating, or has an unusual change in urine color, don’t ignore it. Early veterinary assessment can help identify the problem before it becomes more serious.

CHITO’S STORY: WHEN TRAUMA CHANGES EVERYTHING 🐾

Meet Chito, a brave little chihuahua who suffered severe injuries after a dog fight. He was presented with a badly injured eye and a fractured jaw.

Unfortunately, Chito’s eye could not be saved, and he underwent eye enucleation—a surgical procedure to remove the damaged eye.

💔 Why can’t some eyes be saved?
Severe trauma can cause irreversible damage to the eye, including rupture of the eyeball, extensive tissue destruction, infection, or loss of vision. In these situations, keeping the eye may cause continued pain, infection, or other complications. Enucleation can remove the source of pain and allow the patient to heal and live comfortably with one eye.

🦴 What happens when a dog’s jaw is fractured?
A fractured jaw can make it difficult or painful for a dog to eat, drink, or properly close the mouth. Depending on the location and severity of the fracture, the bones may need to be stabilized surgically so they can heal in the correct position. Without proper treatment, a jaw fracture can lead to difficulty eating, abnormal healing, infection, and long-term problems with the bite and oral function.

Despite everything he has been through, Chito is still eating and staying active after surgery. ❤️🐶

His journey isn’t over yet. He is planned for jaw repair soon, giving him the best opportunity to regain normal function and continue his recovery.

Chito’s case reminds us that not every injury can be repaired by simply “saving” the damaged organ. Sometimes, removing a severely injured eye is the kindest option, while stabilizing a fractured jaw is essential for a comfortable and functional recovery.
