Some veterinarians have probably done euthanasia many, many times.
For me, this was only my 5th.
And grabeโฆ it still feels heavy.
As a vet, I know what needs to be done. I know the medications. I know the anesthesia. I know how to make sure the patient is asleep, comfortable, and doesnโt feel pain or fear.
But knowing all of that doesnโt make it emotionally easier.
You still have to stay calm. You still have to do your job properly. You still have to be strong because the owner is already hurting and looking at you, trusting you to make their petโs last moments peaceful.
But deep inside, youโre hurting too.
And maybe thatโs the part people donโt see.
After everything is done and things finally get quietโฆ๐๐๐๐ฉ๐ค ๐ฃ๐ ๐ฃ๐๐ ๐ค ๐ข๐-๐๐๐๐ก ๐ฉ๐๐ฃ๐๐ฃ.

You realize that a life just ended in front of you.
A pet that was someoneโs baby. Someoneโs best friend. Someoneโs family.
This was only my 5th euthanasia, and I honestly hope I never become numb to it.
Dili ko gusto nga maanad ko ani. I want to remain sensitive to every life entrusted to me.
Because yes, sometimes euthanasia is the kindest thing we can do when a patient is already suffering.
But that doesnโt mean itโs easy for the person who has to do it.
