What mites can do to your 🐱

04/09/2026

🐾 PROTECT YOUR DOG. PROTECT YOUR HOUSEHOLD.

Leptospirosis is more than just a disease in dogs—it is also a zoonotic disease, which means it can affect people.

Dogs may become infected when they come into contact with water, mud, soil, or surfaces contaminated with the urine of infected animals, especially rats and other rodents.

An infected dog may also shed the bacteria through its urine, making awareness, prevention, and early treatment especially important.

💧 Keep dogs away from floodwater and stagnant water when possible.
🐀 Control rats and rodents around your home.
💉 Ask your veterinarian about leptospirosis vaccination.
🩺 Watch for signs such as sudden weakness, loss of appetite, vomiting, fever, or changes in urination.

Healthy dogs help create healthier homes.

Protecting your pet from leptospirosis is one more way of protecting the people who love them, too.

🔬 Getting to Know Your Pet’s CBC Values: Monocytes

When your veterinarian recommends a CBC or Complete Blood Count, it helps us understand what may be happening inside your pet’s body.

One of the values we check is called Monocytes

🧫 What are monocytes?
Monocytes are a type of white blood cell and part of your pet’s immune system.

In normal blood, monocytes are usually not seen in large numbers. They are only present in small amounts because they often move into tissues where they help the body respond to problems.

🐾 What do monocytes do?
They help the body respond to:

🦠 Infection
🔥 Inflammation
🩹 Wounds
🧬 Tissue damage
😰 Stress
⏳ Long-term or chronic illness

So when the monocyte count is high, iit may mean your pet’s body is reacting to something.

⚠️ Important reminder
High monocytes alone do not confirm one specific disease. It is only one clue.

That is why your veterinarian looks at the whole CBC, your pet’s symptoms, physical exam, and sometimes other tests.

💡 Simple reminder
CBC values are not just numbers.
They are clues that help us understand your pet’s health better.

Worms can be present even in pets that look healthy. 🐶🪱

Your dog or cat may still be active and eating well, but intestinal parasites can already be affecting their digestion, growth, and nutrition.

Some worms or parasite eggs are not visible to the naked eye — that’s why a stool exam is important.
