GARAPATA SA BAKA: Maliit na Peste, Malaking Luging Dala!

Mukhang simpleng garapata lang… pero kayang pabagsakin ang produksyon ng gatas mo.

💥 Ano ang epekto ng ticks sa dairy cattle?
• 🩸 Sumisipsip ng dugo → nagdudulot ng anemia at panghihina
• 📉 Bumababa ang milk yield
• 🦠 Nagdadala ng sakit tulad ng babesiosis at anaplasmosis
• 😣 Stress sa hayop → mababang fertility at poor performance

🔍 Signs na may problema sa garapata:
• Madalas pagkakamot o pag-alog ng ulo
• Payat kahit sapat ang pakain
• Maputla ang gilagid (sign ng anemia)
• Nakikitang ticks sa tenga, leeg, udder, at ilalim ng buntot

🛡️ Paano makokontrol?
✔️ Regular na paggamit ng acaricides (spray/pour-on/dip)
✔️ Linisin ang paligid at damuhan (pasture management)
✔️ I-isolate ang heavily infested na baka
✔️ Regular herd check – huwag hintayin lumala

Baka may subclinical disease na hindi mo nakikita 👇

🔍 1. Subclinical Mastitis
Walang buo o paninilaw, pero bagsak ang milk yield at quality.
👉 Hidden infection = tuloy-tuloy ang loss

⚡ 2. Subclinical Ketosis
Normal kumain… pero kulang sa energy sa loob.
👉 Resulta: low production + poor fertility

🐂 Philippine Native Cattle – Swak para sa magsasakang may limitadong puhunan. Matibay, mura alagaan, at sanay sa klima at sakit sa Pilipinas.

🐮 Brahman Cattle – Mas mataas ang produksiyon at mas mabilis lumaki, pero kailangan ng mas masustansyang pagkain at maayos na pamamahala. Mainam din i-crossbreed para mas lumakas ang resistensya sa init at sakit ng mga guya.

BAKIT HINDI TAMANG MAGPAINOM NG ANTIBIOTICS SA BAKA?

Hindi lahat ng sakit nadadaan sa “painom lang.”

Sa katotohanan:
• Maraming oral antibiotics ang hindi epektibo sa adult cows
• Nasisira lang ang normal gut flora → pwedeng magdulot ng mas malalang problema sa rumen
• Mali ang dosing → kulang ang absorption → antibiotic resistance
• Sayang ang gamot, sayang ang pera—walang clinical benefit

Bottomline:
Ang baka ay ruminant. Hindi sila parang baboy o manok na madaling ma-absorb ang oral meds.

KAILAN LANG PWEDENG MAG-ORAL ANTIBIOTICS? (Special Cases)

✔️ Calves (pre-ruminant stage)
– Functional pa ang abomasum → may absorption
– Halimbawa: bacterial diarrhea (scours)

✔️ Specific gut infections
– Targeted use kung ang infection ay nasa GI tract mismo
– Dapat may tamang diagnosis

✔️ Supportive, not primary treatment
– Hindi siya first-line sa systemic infections (e.g. pneumonia, mastitis)

• Tamang diagnosis muna
• Use the right drug, right route (usually injectable), right dose
• Work with a veterinarian
