🚨 TWO EMERGENCY CASES TODAY – TIME IS LIFE 🚨
Today, we had 2 critical patients rushed to the clinic. Both cases remind us how important EARLY intervention is.
⸻
🐶 PATIENT 1: Luna (Dachshund) – TOAD (Bufo) TOXICITY.
Luna was brought in salivating excessively, with dilated pupils (mydriasis), muscle spasm, irregular heart beat and unresponsive.
She had contact with a toad, leading to suspected Bufotoxin exposure.
✔️ We immediately placed an IV line
✔️ Administered activated charcoal (supportive, not an antidote)
✔️ Gave oxygen support
✔️ Close cardiac and neurologic monitoring
After emergency management, Luna is now stable but still under close observation.
⚠️ WHY IS BUFOTOXIN DANGEROUS?
Toad toxins affect the heart and nervous system. They can cause:
• Severe arrhythmias
• Seizures
• Hyperthermia
• Sudden death
❗ IMPORTANT: There is NO specific antidote for Bufotoxin. Treatment is purely supportive and symptomatic.
📌 First thing to do if your dog bites a toad:
1. Immediately flush the mouth with running water (sideways flow, not directly down the throat).
2. Wipe gums and tongue with a wet cloth.
3. Go to the nearest veterinary clinic ASAP.
⏳ Minutes matter.
🐶 PATIENT 2: Ystal (Aspin) – HYPOCALCEMIA
Ystal was presented trembling, with stiff gait, fever, panting, tachycardia, and weakness.
She has a history of hypocalcemia, and this is now her second episode.
✔️ IV fluid therapy
✔️ Oxygen support
✔️ Calcium supplementation
After treatment, she is now stable.
⚠️ Hypocalcemia can cause:
• Muscle tremors
• Seizures
• Cardiac complications
• Collapse
This condition can become life-threatening if not treated immediately.
⸻
✨ Both emergency cases were managed successfully because they were brought EARLY.
Emergency cases can be managed, but TIME is very important.
The longer you wait, the harder it becomes to reverse the damage.
Please, if you notice:
• Excessive salivation
• Tremors
• Weakness
• Unresponsiveness
• Difficulty breathing
🚨 Do NOT wait.
🚨 Do NOT self-medicate.
🚨 Bring them to a veterinarian immediately.
We are grateful both Luna and Ystal are now stable.
Early action saves lives. 🐾💛
