Uma and Amira are both in heat, so every boy in this house is on lockdown — yes, even Mohatu.

So what's a girl to do?

Girly girls turned full tomboys overnight! If the boys are off limits, I guess each other will have to do. 😂

Female dogs will sometimes mount or hump each other during heat — hormones, excitement, general chaos. Throw in Bullmastiff energy (big, goofy, zero chill) and you get pure comedy.

Mohatu: "Come on, just let me try”
Me: "Not happening, big boy!!!”

Ahadi & Scar: "We're retired. Don't drag us into this."
Uma & Amira: "Fine, we've got it covered."

Hormones + Bullmastiff personality = absolutely no dignity left.

Every. Single. Bath.

Mohatu has decided that the proper position for a scrub is lying down.

Would it be easier if this giant dog simply stood up? Absolutely.
Does he care? Absolutely not.

So while I’m trying to scrub a 100+ lb Bullmastiff lying on the floor, Mohatu is happily enjoying his spa treatment… while simultaneously giving my knees the workout of their lives.

He eventually stands up—but only when he decides it’s time.

Sunday mornings hit different when you’ve got a ‘bear’ calmly guarding her collection of coconut fronds and mahogany sticks while the rest of the bullmastiff crew supervises from a distance. Amira’s just out here soaking up the peace, one twig at a time. Hope everyone’s Sunday is this relaxed.

Timira, reverse brindle bullmastiff — built like a fortress, moves like a shadow, loves like a lapdog.

Bullmastiffs were bred to hold their ground without needing to make noise about it — calm, watchful, quietly confident. Timira reminds me that real strength doesn’t need to prove itself. You can be powerful and still be soft. Guarded and still be goofy. Some of the biggest hearts come in the sturdiest packages.

Lesson of the day: You don’t have to bark to be strong. Just show up, stand tall, and let your tongue hang out sometimes.

Meet Imara — my youngest bullmastiff who has fully mastered the art of "I know you're calling me but I didn't hear you."

Before she turned one this past August 5th, one "Imara!" (maybe two) and she'd come barreling over. Easy. Every day after she eats, I keep her in the back near the big enclosure — just being careful she doesn't slip out the gate while I'm driving my sons to school.

Now that she's officially 1? A totally different story. One call, no response. Two calls, she looks at me like she's weighing her options. Now I need to bring out the special treats just to get her attention.

This is textbook bullmastiff — true to their blood. They're famously independent thinkers, not blind followers. Bred originally to patrol estates and make their own calls in the moment without a handler's constant direction, selective hearing is basically in their DNA. She knows exactly what I'm asking — she's just deciding if it's worth her while. Loyal, protective, and stubborn as they come, all wrapped up in one giant loaf of a dog.
