PAWS FILES CASE AGAINST ABUSIVE K9 HANDLER.
Today, PAWS filed criminal charges against the K9 handler who was caught on video maltreating a service dog named Bingo within the MERALCO premises in Pasig City.
Once the public prosecutor finds probable cause, the accused Nathaniel Noilan โNoelโ Gaรฑola will face charges of violation of the Animal Welfare Act in court.
In her affidavit, the witness narrated that she captured on video how Ganola started choking the dog by forcefully pulling on its leash. โHe then grabbed the dog by its collar to bring the animal to a standing position, such that it was on its hind legs. The handler continued pulling the dog upwards until it was dangling in the air by its neck.
โThe maltreatment continued with the handler hitting Bingo on the neck: first, a strong blow to the right sode, followed by another blow to the left. He also punched the animal in the abdomen.โ
Atty. Anna Cabrera, PAWS Executive Director said that while public outrage on social media was good when the video went viral several weeks ago, โfiling criminal charges is a crucial step to ensure that abusers are held accountable. โ ๐พโ๏ธ
โEvery case we bring to court sends a clear message that animal cruelty will not be tolerated,โ says Cabrera. โWhether or not we get the GUILTY verdict we are hoping for, filing these cases will have a chilling effect on animal offenders.
โWe call on the those who may capture animal cruelty on video - or those who have witnessed acts of animal cruelty even without having taken a video or a photo - to continue filing these complaints and executing witness affidavits. โ
Service dogs like Bingo dedicate their lives to protecting us and safeguarding our workplaces. The least we owe them is to keep them healthy and safe. It is our moral duty to protect them from inhumane working conditions and from abusive handlers.
What happened to Bingo is a crime and may only be the tip of the iceberg of the abuse constantly suffered by working dogs behind closed doors.
PAWS is committed to helping in the prosecution of animal cruelty. With your support, we will continue to hold animal offenders accountable.
