Well it’s true what people say about parents of twins, they are classic overachievers as the genes so nice, they made them twice 🤩

This season, we aimed to produce healthy, sturdy, well marked and all-around purebreds. With having 3 different rams on the job, we’ve been so fortunate to have produced what we’ve set out to achieve. We’ve welcomed 4 girls and 2 boys to the flock this year and we haven’t finished yet. Here are our recently born Marshalls;

Starting on the 28th Aug, Elsie Peter ET & Wh**ky Peter ET have outdone themselves yet again, welcoming another set of twins, Caoimhe, pronounced ā€œKee-vaā€, & Oonagh, pronounced ā€œUnaā€, both very striking and strong ewe lambs.

Then, the following afternoon 29th Aug, our new attractive duo Brynn Peter ET & Peter889/24 have delivered us a magnificent set of twins, Faye & Lorcan, whom share a new Marshall bloodline to be proud of. Although Faye did start life slow and became a bottle fed baby, but has since caught up to her brother and has recently become our token PR girl, joining us for our delivery merchandise runs. Faye is full of life, a real sweetie with a lovely wee nature. Everyone who has met her seems to fall in love, making Faye a very special lamb and a great member of the flock.

All Valais and their lambs are doing remarkably well as they navigate their first spring. They will soon be back in the wool shed for some pampering and important health checks. But in the meantime, they are all staying warm, dry, and are kept well fed in this horrendous weather Southland has endured.

I honestly couldn’t have asked for a better flock, having bred 7 healthy ewe lambs, 2 ram lambs and 1 castrate so far this season has been nothing but extraordinary. Working amongst animals, like the Valais isn’t just a job but a passion for breeding the best 🄰

Wow !! this is a strong case of dĆ©jĆ  vu for us here at Marshall Valais NZ. We’ve experienced another emotional week of losing a beloved pet and only 3 days later we have welcomed another new baby into the flock ā¤ļøā€šŸ©¹

Our amazing Marshall Valais - Eloise has again in a timely fashion, given birth to another perfectly marked ewe lamb on the morning of (9th July 2026) making it another 2nd generation of our Marshall bloodline. I’ve named this wee star, Caileag, pronounced ā€œKay-lagā€, which means girl, lass and young. Her name closely resembles her older full sister, Marshall Valais - Niseag.

She’s certainly helped put a smile back on my face, can’t wait for this lass to flourish 🄰

These guys make me smile everyday and it feels so satisfying to have them all together as they got pampered down at the wool shed 🧔

All our Valais got a fresh shear/crutch and feet trimmed, while our young lambs had their first B12 jabs, tags, their DNA collected for future registrations and let’s not forget endless amounts of cuddles. One lamb has already been pre sold to their forever home, which is absolutely marvellous.

I’d be lying, if things weren’t busy enough. As we’ve also introduced a lovely young ram who is coming over to visit our Marshall girls and it wouldn’t be a show without punch as we happily welcome back Marshall Valais - Ivy to the flock, who is here meeting our flying visitor and who is very much taken by him already. So it’s pretty awesome to watch our Marshall flock expanding each year šŸ™ŒšŸ¼

I’m beyond excited to see what this season has in store for us genetics wise and to have more purebred Valais frolicking our paddocks is exhilarating to say the least !

We made a wish that two more little blessings would arrive soon and here they are !

Pip Peter ET has promptly given birth (15th March 2026) to her first set of twins this morning. With Wh**ky, they have already produced two ewe lambs, Eloise and Daphne into the flock and today was no exception !! They are continuing that streak and have produced another two ewe lambs for us !! I’m very taken by how striking and well marked these two lassies are.

As you all know, we love choosing Gaelic names for our Marshall bloodlines, so it will come at no surprise that we’ve named our new twins the following. Starting with twin 1, Marshall Valais - PrƬomh (Pronounced Prim) meaning Chief, first/eldest born, excellent and first flower of spring. For twin 2, we’ve chosen Marshall Valais - Fiobha (pronounced Fife) which is a place name in Scotland, where my family is from and it means bright eyes, musical flute and legend.

Priomh and Fiobha are certainly the prime example for what Marshall Valais NZ strive for in a set of newborn twins. Already on their feet, latching with ease and quickly finding momentum within the flock. Most of all they are in healthy condition, very sound, alert, and both exhibit exceptional black markings, which I can’t fault as Pip features them also.

We are certainly winning at twinning with the purebreds, who have so far produced 3 girls and 1 boy this season, long may it last. It’s been amazing to watch the flock flourish and going from strength to strength is beyond comprehension as I always look forward to sharing it with you all !! 🩷

We’ve had a splendid outing at the Southland A&P show yesterday. With a remarkable turnout of 15 Valais entires, we were more than delighted to have our own section in the Sheep pavilion once again.
I’m absolutely lost for words with all our Valais placing strong and have taken home an impressive haul of ribbons. So for the 156th annual show, our Valais placed:

Class 4041 Ram, 20 months and over: Wh**ky Peter 1st placešŸ„‡& won Champion Valais Blacknose Ram šŸ†

Class 4042 Ram, under 20 months: MARSHALL VALAIS - Jamison 1st placešŸ„‡

Class 4045 Ewe, 20 months and over: Pip Peter ET 1st placešŸ„‡

Class 4046 Ewe, under 20 months: Brynn Peter ET 1st placešŸ„‡& won Champion Valais Blacknose Ewe šŸ†

Class 4046 Ewe, under 20 months: MARSHALL VALAIS - Eloise 2nd place🄈& won Reserve Champion Valais Blacknose Ewe šŸ†

Class 4047 Ewe Lamb: MARSHALL VALAIS - Keeley 1st placešŸ„‡

Class 4047 Ewe Lamb: MARSHALL VALAIS - Daphne 3rd placešŸ„‰

And to top it all off, our big fella Wh**ky Peter ET was also crowned with SUPREME CHAMPION VALAIS BLACKNOSE of the show šŸ‘‘ Huge well done mate ! Another one to add to our collection.

I’m just full of beans and I couldn’t have asked for a better show to finish the season with the Valais 🄰
It’s been lots of time, travel, growth and knowledge with each show I’ve taken the Valais to. But I wouldn’t have it any other way and happily celebrated with a few cold ones last night !!šŸ¾

There is always a reason to smile, especially when it comes to new life and no words can describe how excited we are here at Marshall Valais NZ.

Elsie Peter ET has out of the blue, surprised us yesterday afternoon (22nd February 2026), with not one but two gorgeous, well marked lambs !! Making them our first ever set of purebred valais twins born into the flock. Both Elsie and Wh**ky have both outdone themselves in producing one of each gender.

From now on we are sticking close with our UK bloodlines for our names. So for the girl we’ve decided on Marshall Valais - Ailin (pronounced Ay-Lyn), meaning light, radience, Little Rock and beautiful.
For our boy, we went with Marshall Valais - Camdyn (pronounced kam-din), meaning ā€œwinding or enclosed valley".

Both Ailin & Camdyn certainly did not muck around either. As within an hour after birth, they were both already standing, latching, had a good feed and are on the move with Elsie constantly fussing over them. So can’t complain.

What an awesome way to start 2026 and I’m just buzzing for what the rest of this season brings. I can’t get enough of Ailin & Camdyn and it will be great to watch them bond and grow together !! šŸ«¶šŸ¼

What a scorching hot day it was up in Omakau, as we took our show team up to the Central Otago A&P show for the first time. There was a great turnout of Valais and we couldn’t have asked for a better show day, with the final results our team had.

Class 560 Ram, under 18 months:
MARSHALL VALAIS - Jamison 1st placešŸ„‡& won CHAMPION VALAIS BLACKNOSE RAM of the show šŸ†

Class 563 Ewe, under 18 months:
MARSHALL VALAIS - Keeley 2nd place🄈

Class 565 Ewe, under 18 months:
MARSHALL VALAIS - Daphne 3rd placešŸ„‰

Class 564 Ewe, 18 - 30 months:
Brynn Peter ET 2nd place🄈

Class 564 Ewe, over 30 months:
Elsie Peter ET 2nd place🄈

Once again, I’m immensely proud of our ā€˜Marshall’ team for making the podium in various classes and being loved by all who attended. Thanks for having us and to Letts Gully Valais Blacknose with your amazing hospitality. Only 1 more show to go !! šŸ«¶šŸ¼
