The water boy! Such a cutie!!!

He can now confidently keep his canter together, he is now calm and knowing…not over enthusiastic and reactive about it! Such a little cutie,, I’m really enjoying seeing him come together. Becoming calm, confident and happy in his ridden work.
A small secret, I learned not over react to his overreaction so we could both learn. Patience is a virtue.

Dressage day! 🌧️

Ronaldo had a 1st and 3rd in Level 2 over the weekend. It was windy and raining, and our halts definitely weren’t our best, but there was some really nice work in there too.

Our team, The Mane Four, came 2nd, which was fun! Ronaldo also had a slightly higher score than the rest of our team to earn a special ribbon. 🎀

What I’m enjoying is feeling how much stronger Ronaldo is getting. His stride has lengthened, and he feels more powerful and able to carry himself. It’s lovely when you start to feel these changes coming through in your riding, and I will enjoy feeling how he continues to develop. ❤️

Back-to-back weekend of showjumping and dressage! Having a wee lie down on the couch as I write this… 😂

The ponies got out of their paddock at 1am and woke me up, so I got up and tied them up for the rest of the night so they couldn’t overeat. Then came the job of untangling the absolute mess they made of the tapes. Little boobs… 😂

Anyway, back to the horses!

Ronaldo was once again placed in every class he went in over the weekend. 🏵️he makes the jumps look small…

2nd in the 1.15m speed, just pipped by my old rival and childhood idol Joy McNeil — pretty cool to be competing against someone I looked up to as a kid!

Then 3rd in the our first 1.20m — there were only three of us🙂 but I’m still really grateful for our round. He did it comfortably ❤️

Another fun weekend out competing with this big guy! Dressage up next 🫣

First 1.15m of the season done, and we step up to 1.20m next weekend! 🐴

My focus has been staying forward through the lines, no holding shortening the stride and adding. I was a touch too keen down the first line and nearly took out a stride, which meant a bit of a pull to fit the last one in. Not my favourite, approach I needed to be quicker thinking knowing I came forward to the oxer and a big jump in, my stride was longer so I needed to shorten it after landing then I could have taken short holds each stride rather than one big one at the end.

Would love another young, unbroken, quality jumping horse to bring on, but I haven't found one yet that's free 😁

Our first weekend of competition, and a ribbon for each class! 🏵️

It was also my son’s first show jumping and dressage event, so it was lovely to ride alongside him over the weekend. He was happy his friend come and with fourth place in the dressage, competing against adults, and his pony jumped awesome too. Lots of encouragement helped him feel proud of how he went — and perhaps inspired to keep going! The hot springs at Kaikohe after the dressage was a touch of special too.

Saturday was show jumping, Ronaldo finishing 4th in the 1.10m and 2nd in the 1.15cm. The footing was lovely to ride on.

Then dressage the next day — not quite as much gas and sparkle left after jumping the day before! It crossed my mind that I might have been the only one in the two Novice classes to get a first in each one.

What a good boy.

He feels stronger coming out of winter, and it’s lovely feeling the little improvements. His lengthened trot and leg yielding are coming along, and his flying changes in the jumping are becoming easier and more consistent.

A lovely, positive first weekend back — and even more special getting to share it with my son. ❤️

I am feeling it’s a shame the ribbons can cover over the experience. And then we may not have the focus of what was nice and be grateful for and what might need attention.

Meet Quiggly 🐴

A very cute dun pony, and my little United Touch!

He has a super jump, open, uphill, expressive paces, and beautiful eyes.

He's five, and right now he's learning to:

• Keep his paces going
• Stay off the inside leg for a complete circle
• Go straight

If he were a horse, I'd have died and gone to heaven. But he's a gentle, soft, cuddly pony, and I feel lucky to spend time with this special little guy.

I’m Keeping in tune with the master Blyth Tait in this video , I’m building up to going out to some shows. I am also available for jump or flat work session on the 20th September, small and larger ponies available for lessons at extra cost $20 each lesson.
