Yay for Hand stripping!!

This is Archer the ever so handsome Border Terrier who came in for his hand strip today.

What is hand stripping you may ask? Well...it is the specialized technique of plucking out by hand the long, dull, dead hairs from the follicle itself. Plucking these dead hairs out stimulates the follicle to produce another new hair and overall will help maintain the correct coat texture and colour.

Only certain breeds such as terriers and spaniels are hand stripped. And when done correctly it is actually a really relaxing experience for the dog and groomer.

Archer really struggles to stay awake during his groom which says it all. 😂🥰

🚨 Parvovirus Alert! 🚨

There is currently an outbreak of Parvovirus in Northland, Parvo is a highly contagious and often deadly virus that affects dogs, especially puppies. It attacks the gastrointestinal system, causing:

⚠️ Severe vomiting
⚠️ Bloody diarrhea
⚠️ Lethargy & loss of appetite
⚠️ Fever or low body temperature

🐶 Prevention is key! 🐶
✔️ Vaccinate your puppy & keep boosters up to date
✔️ Avoid public places until fully vaccinated
✔️ Disinfect areas where infected dogs have been
✔️ Seek veterinary care immediately if you notice symptoms

How Parvovirus spreads? Parvo spreads easily through contact with infected dogs, f***s, or contaminated surfaces. It can survive in the environment for months to even years! Please keep your dogs away from areas where the virus is easily spread such as the dog park, loop and other areas that often have a high rate of unvaccinated dogs.

Our cleaning products at the clinic are all certified to kill Parvovirus, Leptospirosis and other diseases and our staff do an excellent job with deep cleaning on a daily basis. Please please if your dog has any of these symptoms listed above DO NOT ENTER the clinic!! Please stay in your vehicle with your dog, and phone the clinic to let us know you are here. This also applies to dogs that are vaccinated.

We ask that anyone who has a new puppy or attends our puppy classes PLEASE keep them off the ground in the car park and carry them into the clinic for safety precautions. We have a fenced off area that is safe for puppies that we can lead you to if they need to use the toilet.

Groomwars 2024!

A jam packed weekend on all things grooming! We were privileged to have experts Nathan & Kathlena Austin and Blake Hernandez travel from the US; and Jade Lewbird & Alicia Fragiadakis from AUS hosting seminars on different grooming techniques, styles and animal behaviour. It was great to meet some of my favourite groomers that I have been a fan of for years!

It's been a wonderful weekend of learning, upskilling, connecting with like minded people and a whole lot of laughs with friends. I feel absolutely inspired again, even after 10 years of professional grooming- you never stop learning!

Thank you to all the organizers for bringing such a brilliant weekend together, the sponsors and guest speakers for all the knowledge you shared!
