Dogs communicate constantly, and they do it subtly. Almost all of it happens through the body: a lip lick, a head turn, a paw lifted and held. Learning to read these signals accurately isn't just a nice skill to have. It's a responsibility. When cues are misread or missed entirely, behavior escalates, and sometimes that escalation ends in a bite.

Reading their language properly means you get to understand their experience on their terms. Not how you imagine they feel. What they are actually telling you, observably, in real time.

Aggressive isn't who a dog is. It's a response, shaped by context and by what has happened to them before. Dogs, when they feel threatened, or when what they tried was ignored.

They are forced to act.

So how do you support a dog through this?

You catch the lower rungs. You notice the lip licking, the yawning, the whale eye, the moving away, and you kindly guide them out of the situation or end the interaction entirely.

When our dogs are listened to, advocated for our dog learns that the quiet cues work. That they were heard the first time. Over time, that builds a dog who communicates more clearly and more confidently, because they've learned they don't have to shout to be understood.

You may have missed some of these before. Most guardians have, because most of us were never taught them. Knowing them now is how we change the conversation around aggression.

Baby girl Satine is waiting for her forever home... only for a special family 🩷
Full of beans and very clever, Satine is ready for her people who will help her thrive.
If you have an energetic older doggie, she will keep them entertained!
What we’ve discovered about her is that she is super smart, but at the same time, super cuddly!

Satine is 3 months, a mix of Border Collie with Australian Cattle Dog, she is fully vaccinated and ready for adventures.

If you live in Tauranga and surroundings (non negotiable) and you would like to meet her to adopt her soon, please send us a message.
There’s an adoption fee that includes desexing and 5 puppy classes to give this dog the best start in life.

Jyn keeps waiting, and waiting, and waiting... and it's so heartbreaking... 🩷
Along with her three gorgeous siblings, Jyn is 3 months old and ready to begin the next chapter of her life with a loving family.
Her DNA results are in, and she's a beautiful mix of Border Collie X Australian Cattle Dog
Jyn may be the smallest puppy in the litter, but what she lacks in size, she makes up for with the biggest heart. As the little runt of the family, she's a kind, gentle soul who has a quiet way of winning everyone over.
She loves to play as much as she loves to cuddle with you.

If you're in Tauranga, Papamoa, Mount Maunganui, Welcome Bay, or nearby, and have been thinking about welcoming a dog into your family, Jyn would love to meet you.
