How to Keep Your TummyTurf Cat Grass Free From Mold!

Our TummyTurf trays are designed for clean, easy hydroponic growing but moisture and airflow still matter.

Here’s how to keep every grow fresh, healthy, and mold‑free.

1. Seed Spacing
Spread seeds in a light, even layer across the tray.
Avoid thick piles or clumps overcrowding traps moisture and encourages fungus.

Our 50g TummyTurf pack gives you 3–4 full grows, so you only need a portion at a time.

3. Airflow & Ventilation
Place your tray in a bright spot with indirect sunlight.
Make sure air can move freely around the tray. Airflow keeps moisture from settling.

4. Hydroponic Water Care
Refresh the bottom‑watering tray daily to prevent stagnant water.
Never let water sit for multiple days. You TummyTurf needs fresh water. This stops bacteria and mold from forming.
Keep the grass blades dry.

5. When to discard
If you see black mold or heavy white/grey mold covering seeds, throw out the batch, wash the tray thoroughly, and start fresh.

Never feed moldy grass to your cat.

Keeping seeds spaced, airflow steady, and water fresh is the key to clean, healthy TummyTurf every time.

LECA Trial: Show & Tell Stage 3 Full Growth

The tray has hit almost its full growth, and the LECA has done exactly what we knew it would and hoped. The roots have anchored cleanly around the clay balls, the water has stayed easy to manage, and the whole setup has remained tidy from start to finish.

Our cats have been helping again, being way too eager to get munching that one knocked the tray over meaning we had to start over again. The image is not the full growth we would have liked to share with you, bit gives you the idea of 1 1/2 weeks growth.

After running this through multiple times, its definitely looking like we will introduce LECA as an option, gradually phasing out the cocopeat mats to move fully to a reusable LECA setup. It’s cleaner, simpler, cost effective and still gives your cat the same TummyTurf grass they love.

LECA Trial Show & Tell: Stage 2 Sprouts Incoming

The tray has officially woken up! Even though we’ve talked about our LECA trial before, this is the first time we’re showing you the sprouting stage and the first little shoots are starting to push through.

This is the part we love, when the seeds shift from 'settling in' to 'coming alive'. The LECA has stayed tidy, the water level is easy to manage, and the roots are already beginning to grow down and wrap around the clay balls,(although I disturbed them to show you) just the way we hoped.

Our cats, of course, have continued their supervisor duties. If the tray is easy to reach like on our kitchen window sill, and there’s a sprout or two, they instantly want to start nibbling. Best to hide away while growing, and over the next week this tray will start to thicken up fast.

Stage 3 will show the full growth and that’s when you’ll really see why we may prepare to phase out the cocopeat mats and move fully to a reusable LECA setup. More photos coming soon as the tray fills out.

LECA Trial Show & Tell Stage 1 The Setup Begins

We’re kicking off a fresh LECA tray this week, and as always our cats have decided they need to be part of the process.

Stage 1 is all about getting the base ready.
Rinsing the LECA, settling it into the tray, adding water, and giving the seeds a good soak before they’re spread out. It’s simple, tidy, and fully hydroponic, exactly what we’ve been aiming for behind the scenes.

And the moment anything goes down, bowls, trays, seeds, our cats appear out of nowhere to “help.” Whether they’re inspecting the setup or supervising from extremely close range, they take their quality‑control role very seriously.

Over the next couple of weeks we’ll share Stage 2 (sprouting) and Stage 3 (full growth) so you can see how the LECA performs from start to finish.

This series will also show you why we’re preparing to look at phasing out the cocopeat mats to move to a cleaner, reusable setup.

Spring Means ZoomieFuel Season Is Back

Spring has finally arrived and our catnip knows it. As soon as the weather warms up, the plants wake up, stretch, and suddenly start growing faster than ever.

We’re already seeing fresh new leaves popping through, and it won’t be long before we’re harvesting the next batch of ZoomieFuel catnip.
This is the part of the year we love most when everything starts growing again and the whole place smells like minty mischief.

Our cats, of course, insist on being involved.
If we’re checking the plants, they’re there.
If we’re harvesting, they’re supervising.
If we're packaging, they're helping.

Spring is basically their favourite season because everything is happening at once.

Behind the Scenes: Cocopeat vs LECA

We’ve been doing a bit of behind‑the‑scenes tinkering again (because we can’t help ourselves). Our TummyTurf kits still use the trusty hydroponic cocopeat mat. Its stable, tidy, and perfect for cats who like to nibble without redecorating the whole tray.

Some cat parents grow their next batch without a mat… and hey, that works too. But if your cat is a determined tug‑and‑pull muncher, you might’ve seen the whole grass layer lift up, roots and all.

That’s why we now offer cocopeat refill packs so you can keep growing fresh trays with the same stable base your cat is used to, without switching to a different setup.

Meanwhile, we’re still trialling LECA (those little clay balls) to see if a reusable base will work. So far, so good. It’s tidy, it’s rinseable, it’s fully hydroponic… but we’re still watching before deciding if it’s something we’ll offer.

So no kit changes just yet. We're still experimenting, learning, and trying to stay one step ahead of your cat’s chaos.
