😸 In much of Asia, black cats and tortoiseshell cats are considered the luckiest. Today Bud and Rue would probably agree with you! 😻

🐈‍⬛ Gorgeous black Bud (12) was much loved by his family, but they sadly couldn’t take him when they moved. Ever so friendly with us in the shelter, we knew he would fit in anywhere, being relaxed around children, other cats and dogs. Bud has now been adopted by a lovely couple and their teenage son. They already have an independent outdoor-loving cat and a dog, so they were loooking for a cat who would enjoy being around them a bit more. The family were smitten with Bud, and after three visits to make sure he got on well with all of them, and to give him time to recover from his dental treatment, he finally left the shelter. He will be very slowly be getting acquainted with other household pets, but we are confident he will do just fine!

🐈 Snuggly tortie Rue (10) was perfectly happy with her folks until the family grew to include children. Realising that she was increasingly stressed by the busier environment, her folks sadly made the difficult decision to rehome her. Rue has now been adopted by a retired couple who had been three years without a cat after a lifetime of being owned by cats. As they live on a relatively busy road, they needed a cat who would be happy to live indoors with them. However, they’re planning to build a catio for her in the near future.

One thing that cannot be overstated about the stunningly handsome and immaculately charming Porge is just how much personality this guy has. For all of the other positive things someone can say about him, the thing that shines through above all else is his character.

Whether he's staring into your soul in an attempt to hypnotize a treat out of you, rolling on the floor because he wants affection, or finding a toy to convince you to play, Porge has a way of letting you know just what he wants; and all of this despite his generally deadpan expression! If you're looking for a gentleman whose whims and desires can dictate your schedule, Porge is the cat for you! If you're looking for an alternate opinion, something considered and thoroughly thought through, he can offer that as well. Ultimately, though, if you're looking for a friend who will always be around somewhere and ready to tell you what he thinks about any situation, Porgie is the perfect fit for you!

🎉 Three gorgeous cats have left the CPW shelter for amazing new homes… enjoy your happy Sunday read!

🐈 Skyla (11), who loved being the centre of adoring attention, was out the door after being with us for only a week! The pretty, confident girl came to us when her family moved overseas and sadly couldn't take her with them. She’s now gone to live with an older couple who’ve fostered for us before. Skyla was all over the lady when they met, and they were immediately taken with her easy personality and general snuggliness.

🐈‍⬛ Winifred (17) also came in when her family moved overseas. She had come to NZ from Australia with them, but at her age, the trip back would have been too big an ask for her. While independent enough to find her own entertainment or snooze spots, Winifred also likes to supervise her people to some extent. She has now been fostered with a lovely woman with a teenage son, who was looking for an older cat to care for. They were super-keen to get her home after patiently waiting for her all-clear after dental treatment.

🐈 Handsome armful Vin (eight) was also unable to go with his family when they moved. Although he looks big and confident, Vin was initially anxious at the shelter, finding his feet only when he got to know and trust the gentle CPW people. We found he loves cuddles, pats and head boops. He’s been adopted by a family who were drawn to several of our cats, but eventually decided his gentle giant energy would suit their household best. When they came back for their second visit, he met them with massive purrs, so we think it’s going to work out just fine for Vin!

The Porge insists on having your attention. With his handsome mug and strikingly deadpan eyes, Porgie here is a presence that you simply cannot overlook! His vibrant personality shines through with a strength that even the darkness of his gorgeous fur and the subtlety of his purr could never hope to undermine... Though the black hole that is his appetite might get close 😜

In all sincerity, Porge is the kind of cat whose description alone could never do justice. Don't let his having come back to us several times now convince you that this man is difficult to love, either; there's a reason people keep connecting with him! Though he has some health conditions that have made finding him a forever home tricky, Porgie is an incredibly charming and lovable fella! That much anybody who has met the wee guy would readily tell you!

😸 As much as we love every one of the cats in the CPW shelter, we always look ahead to the happy day when each gets the forever home they deserve. That day has arrived for three more cats… 🫶

🐈 Tango (4) has been in search of a stable home for longer than most. He first lived with a young man who then left to go travelling and gave Tango to his grandparents. After a while, one became unwell and they needed to move, at which point Tango went missing. Many months later, he was found living in an industrial estate but the remaining grandparent could no longer care for him. The big, confident, friendly fella came to us and settled straight in! Tango has now been adopted by a lovely couple who waited a few years grieving the loss of their last cat and then travelling overseas. After being drawn toward several of our large, smoochy boys, they eventually decided that Tango was definitely the one for them. Someone will usually be home with him to give him security and ward off any inclination he might have to wander. 🥰

🐈 Also a handsome cameo lad, Theodore (10) is now in his perfect home. He came in when his person moved overseas, his heart murmur making it too risky for him to go with her. The big smoosh once got lost and after he was found, he promptly became an indoor lapcat. He’s eligible for our Care for Life permanent foster programme due to his heart condition and early arthritis, although you wouldn’t know it when he gets the zoomies during playtime. Theodore has now gone home with people who’ve fostered for us before and were looking to share their home with an older cat. After three visits to be confident they could manage his health needs and keep him safely confined for at least two weeks – given he’s clever at opening doors – they happily took him home. When his settling-in time is up, he’ll have access to a lovely, safe garden. 🏡

🐈 And finally, we’re very happy to wave goodbye to the beautiful and independent Karen (5). The tabby girl was surrendered after she became increasingly irritable with the other cat in the home, and even more so after a litter of kittens moved in next door. She needed to be the only cat in a home where she could curl up on a warm lap or in a soft blanket for a cosy nap. Her new person specifically came looking for a cat who was a bit harder to rehome, due to being both affectionate and independent. After meeting just about everyone in the shelter, she was very taken by Karen and her stunning green eyes. Wherever she went after that, Karen wasn't too far behind, keeping just out of arm’s reach so she didn't look too desperate! Karen can be very sweet once she knows someone, but is equally happy amusing herself biffing a mouse toy around the floor. Less than an hour after taking her home, Karen had met family members and then climbed into her person’s lap for a cuddle. She even spent most of the night sleeping on the bed. Yay for Karen! 🎉

This October, the is Porge. A beloved resident at the shelter, Porgie is a handsome gentleman with an immense personality. Having the capacity to be a playful, adventurous and brave fellow or a sweet, cuddly little guy, this 9 year-old is the epitome of someone who can be your angel or your devil; he could make for almost anyone's perfect companion in the approaching Halloween season!

Porge, having been with us a number of times in the past and who has been with us for some time during this stint, is kept in his own space due to his dislike for other cats. In all likelihood, this is a part of what makes him so easy to overlook: anyone who gets a moment to meet him immediately comes to see that this is a very endearing and distinctive gentleman. He marches to the beat of his own drum, and if he could only find a proper forever home, he would surely make a delightful family member, just as he has become an incredibly loved member of the CPW whānau!

Please welcome to the CPW whānau this week… three pretty girlies!

🐾 Primrose (5yo female) is a gentle soul who has found life in a multi-cat household a little too stressful. Changes and unpredictable pets can make her anxious, which has led to some toileting issues.
She's shy with big changes, but very food motivated and will soon decide you're her best friend if you're the one filling her bowl 😸
Primrose needs to be the only cat in a quiet, settled home with safe outdoor access. She'd prefer calm humans who respect her space, and she'll need her portion sizes watched as she's gained a little weight recently 🧡

🐾 Ravi Frude (9yo female) is an outgoing girl who isn't shy about announcing when it's dinner time! She loves head scratches, curling up with her humans and exploring outdoors, where she's also been known to hunt birds 😽
Ravi enjoys both company and her alone time, so she's perfectly happy with someone who works full-time. She'd love a home where she can set the pace, with easy outdoor access away from busy roads. No dogs or other cats, please, and children are okay as long as they respect her boundaries 🤍

🐾 Lady Cleo (7yo female) can be a little shy at first, but once she trusts you, she's the most loving girl who adores a lap and having a quiet space to call her own 😻
When not smooching with her favourite person, she loves exploring the outdoors and needs safe outdoor access. Lady Cleo has previously lived with other cats but would be happiest as the only pet.
She has a couple of fused vertebrae, but this doesn't affect her at all and requires no treatment. Her family are moving overseas and sadly couldn't take her with them 🖤

🐈‍⬛ Grey and white Rosie (11) was left all alone when her person passed away. Brought to the CPW shelter, she was shy of strangers at first, but some good headrubs and lap time helped build her confidence. By the time she met her new folks, she showed how much she liked them withso much affection, they couldn't help but fall in love. The couple had missed having cats around, and have a lovely sunny house for her to enjoy, and plenty of attention to give her. They even started planning blanket forts for her to hide in and a high vantage point where she can survey her surroundings!

🐈 Also out the door this week was young Purdy (8 months), who was transferred to us from a rural rescue after testing positive for FIV. She will need to live indoors to avoid sharing the virus with other cats, but she’s an extremely happy and sociable girl. She loves other cats, dogs, kids… and carrying her favourite toys around in her mouth. In the shelter, she was a ball of energy, chasing springs around and playing pawsies through other cats’ cage doors. Purdy has now been fostered by a young couple who brought her some cat toys on their first visit to make friends with her. They live in a city apartment, and she’ll have lots of company with one person working shifts, and the other often working from home. They couldn’t wait to get her home, and raced back to us mid-week to pick her up!
