Please welcome to the CPW whānau this week… two gorgeous girls at very different stages of life looking for their perfect homes! 🩷

🐾 April (6yo female) has come to us after her owners found it increasingly difficult to give her the care she needs as they got older. This independent lady is a real outdoorsy girl who loves having plenty of space to explore!

April can take a little while to trust new people, but once she does, she enjoys playing with toys and curling up beside her favourite human 😻
She's not much of a lap cat and prefers affection on her own terms. April is looking for a home with lots of safe outdoor space, ideally a lifestyle property or somewhere with plenty of room to roam. She's not used to children and definitely isn't a fan of dogs.

🐾 Purdy (8mo female) is our adorable baby of the week! She was transferred to us from a rural rescue after testing positive for FIV, meaning this little lady needs to live an indoor-only life.

Purdy absolutely loves everyone! Cats, dogs, kids, humans - she's a very social wee girl who wants to be involved ❤️ She loves sleeping on your pillow, giving kisses and carrying her favourite little toys around in her mouth.

Being only eight months old, Purdy is a big commitment for her future family, but they'll hopefully have many, many years of love ahead of them. She can go home as a medical foster due to her FIV status and is looking for an indoor home with plenty of space to play and grow.

🐈 Tanner (11) is a small tabby cat who lived outside all year round, sleeping in a dog kennel or under the deck. This was so his people wouldn’t have to worry about scratched furniture or fleas. Happily, his fortunes changed after he came to Cats Protection Wellington!

🏡 When he came to the CPW shelter, he was a bit anxious about suddenly being inside all the time, but gradually he got used to the constant warmth and comfort of beds and sofas. Before long, he was purring and rubbing against our hands, and enjoying treats.

😸 Tanner also felt much better after getting much-needed dental care, and he was eligible for our Care for Life permanent foster programme due to his arthritis and unstable kneecaps. He has now been taken home by a young woman who really connected with him when they met. She'll be home a lot so he’ll have the company he needs, as well as his favourite bed from the shelter.

🥰 We’ve heard already that he has settled in very happily. In fact, his new person rang to check just how often we’d been feeding him, since he was informing her that six meals a day was perfectly normal! Lol, nice try, Tanner!😸

Please welcome to the CPW whānau this week… one very special senior lady looking for somewhere to spend her golden years! 🩷

🐾 Winifred (17yo female) has come to us after her family moved overseas. She previously made the journey from Australia with them, but at 17 years old, another big international adventure wasn't going to be right for her.

Winifred is an independent lady who knows exactly how she likes to spend her days! You'll often find her snoozing outside in a sunny spot or pottering around exploring before heading indoors at night to curl up on a nice warm bed 😻

She's affectionate on her own terms and appreciates having her space, but still likes to keep her humans nearby and supervise whatever they're getting up to. Winifred doesn't mind being left to her own devices during the day, provided you don't forget the very important job of keeping her food bowl topped up 😼

This lovely senior is looking for a home with a safe garden or a little bit of bush to explore. Older, respectful children could be okay, but mostly Winifred is after a peaceful retirement where she can enjoy sunshine, good food and plenty of cosy sleeping spots ❤️

😻Four more cats have entered their carry-cages of freedom, on their way from the comfy CPW shelter to their awesome new homes!

🐈Hunee (2) had a history of ear infections and being passed around several homes. These made her anxious and distrustful of new people. But when she feels safe, she loves to chase shadows and string toys. She’s now been fostered by one of our volunteers, and will have plenty of toys to play with and tunnels to zoom through. She even got to take her favourite cardboard ice-cream truck home to sleep in. They’re looking forward to having cat energy in the house, and Hunee will thrive in a stable, loving home.

🐈Sir Leo (3) is a stunning, longhaired ginger boy whose folks were struggling to afford his care on top of the cost of living. They made the difficult decision to rehome him so he could have the home he deserves. After just one week in the shelter, Leo clearly enjoyed meeting a father and cat-savvy 5-year-old son, and he’s about to have an array of handcrafted catwalks and platforms to enjoy. He’ll be a very happy cat!

🐈Cherie (6) had been very much loved but her person is sadly ill to care for her anymore, and there’s no family around to take her in. She needed a quiet home with no children, dogs, or other cats, and safe outdoor access. She’s now gone home with a lovely young couple whose quiet home was just too quiet without a cat to love! Apparently, it was Cherie’s super-intense purr that made her new folks fall for her. She will now have the time and space she needs to regain her confidence.

🐈Titan (11) came to CPW when her person had a big change in circumstances and couldn’t provide the home and care she needed. As with many white cats, Titan’s ears have been cropped due to skin cancers, but she’s a friendly girl who loves attention and being groomed. She’s been adopted by couple who adore animals and will be able to give Titan plenty of company. She has a safe yard to explore but her folks will be keeping a close watch on her sunshine time to avoid the risk of further cancers.

📢Some fantastic news this week for an older cat who’s found his home after being with us for three years…!!🎉

🐈‍⬛Striking steel-grey gentleman Grace was expected to live out his days in comfort at the CPW shelter, as his habit of wailing loudly tended to put a lot of prospective adopters off. But now – proving that every cat has the potential to bring joy to a household – he has gone home with a lovely couple who have fostered our cats before and are used to vocal cats.

🏡Grace now has a home which is well-equipped with plush beds and heat mats, and where even the heater is positioned to keep him toasty warm. We also sent Grace off with a water fountain so he could continue his healthy morning routine of having a big drink. Photos from his new home already show him curled up snoozing, with his heat pad and water fountain close by.

If you're looking for an energetic cat with boundless confidence and endless things to tell you about, Ziggy probably isn't going to offer you what you're after. He's pretty timid around strangers, not overtly cuddly when he knows someone, and even when he feels like playing with you, he tends to keep his own pace rather than rising to whatever tempo you operate at. He can seem a bit on the sedentary side, especially to someone who doesn't know him.

To someone who he trusts, though, he will be a loyal and dedicated companion. He'll follow you around to no end and readily accept any pats or chin-skritches you'll offer, all with that same, relaxedly stoic expression of his; an expression that seems at total odds with the skittish demeanor he presents when you first meet him. Ziggy might not seem overly active when someone is around (though he has been known to work himself into a bit of a frenzy when on his own, every now and then), but he likes what he likes and won't likely leave its side... Unless there's some food available, that is 😉

Please welcome to the CPW whānau this week… two handsome gentlemen looking for their forever homes! 💛

🐾 Vin (8yo male) came to us after his family had to move and sadly couldn't take him along. This big tabby boy can be a little timid initially, but once he knows you're safe, he's a gentle giant who absolutely loves cuddles, pats and head boops 😻

Vin's other great loves include Temptations, string toys and spending plenty of time outdoors, but loud environments, dogs and car rides are firmly on his "no" list! He's looking for a quieter home with safe indoor/outdoor access, away from wildlife reserves, as he is a keen bird hunter.

🐾 Dudley (15yo male) is a gorgeous senior boy who has come to us after his owner moved somewhere he couldn't follow. Dudley absolutely adores people and would love a home where someone is around most of the time. He'll even go searching for his humans if he thinks he's been left alone too long ❤️

These days, Dudley's favourite activities include finding sunny spots for long naps, chatting away to his people, enjoying endless chin rubs and curling up on someone's bed at night 😽

He's not a fan of being picked up, but loves attention on his own terms.

Dudley isn't particularly agile and has very little road sense, so this sweet senior needs a very safe section where he can enjoy his retirement in comfort.

For Ziggy, being cool comes naturally 😎. Alas, the same cannot be said for being calm and collected, a pair of traits that can be particularly detrimental when he first meets someone. This handsome little man can be pretty timid and shy around strangers, and will often find a comfy nook to hide away in at first.

On the more positive side of this, however, getting on Ziggy's good side is pretty easy! He's not one for lashing out or swiping, even hissing isn't really his style, and with his white colouration he can be pretty easy to notice even if he's gotten himself into a shadowy little spot. Once you've taken the time (probably only a few seconds) to find him, just give him some pats or get his attention with a toy and Mr Stardust here will go from skittish to relaxed in the blink of an eye!

Please welcome to the CPW whānau this week… two gorgeous girls searching for their new forever homes! 🩷

🐾 Mini Cookie (6yo female) came to us after her owner struggled to find a rental that could accommodate all of her cats. She has spent most of her life outdoors, so we're hoping to show her just how good the indoor life can be too!

Mini Cookie can be a little shy initially, but responds enthusiastically to affection and enjoys pats and lap time 😻 She can't get enough of the cuddles! With fewer cats around, we think she has plenty of potential to become a proper pampered princess.

She's looking for a home with indoor/outdoor access where she can discover cosy couches, warm fires and all the comforts she's been missing out on.

🐾 Peggy (6yo female) came to us after her family had to move and sadly couldn't take her along. She's a gorgeous, affectionate girl who loves company, gets along with children and other cats, and doesn't take long to get her purr motor running ❤️

Peggy lost her right eye after being hit by a car several years ago and also suffered injuries to her jaw and sinuses. As a result, she can be a little sneezy and have some discharge from her right nostril, but it certainly hasn't stopped her from enjoying life 😺

Peggy would love a home where her humans are around often, and she can soak up plenty of attention. She also needs access to a very safe outdoor area, especially as her missing eye means she has less awareness of anything approaching from her right

Welcome back to CPW, where tabbies have been flying out the door! Today we bring you heart-warming stories about SIX of our cats – spoiler alert: they all have happy endings!

Outgoing tabby twins Cinnamon and Toto (3) were double trouble, exploring the CPW shelter and playing chasies, when they weren’t curled up together or grooming each other. Toto is more of a lap fella, while chatty Cinnamon likes to announce herself when she enters a room, and opens doors and drawers. They had been much loved, but with a large block of flats being noisily built next door and a couple of local bully cats picking on them, they got completely stressed out. They came to us to find a calmer place to live, but were quick to liven up the shelter! Their new person had visited the shelter a few times looking for the right cats to adopt, but didn’t find a match until she met these two. They were taken home just in time, because Toto has also learned to open doors and would get into our office if someone was working in there!

Gentle young Oscar (1) was in a family with two young children, and started to struggle with the noise levels. A spell of bad weather brought things to a head, and with another baby on the way, it was best for Oscar to find a quiet home somewhere else instead. The playful, sweet-natured boy has now been adopted into quieter family, who have a cat-friendly dog for him to play with.

Rubi (6) also found herself unable to cope with a toddler, with recurring bladder infections (often a sign of stress). While waiting at the shelter for a more suitable home, she proved to be an inquisitive girl who liked to know what’s going on so she could join in. She needed a home that offered laps and cosy beds, and found it with a couple who visited her twice to make sure she was the right cat for them. Rubi was very happy to get to know both of them before heading off to her awesome new home.

King Louie (15) had to say goodbye to his family when they went overseas, as they felt he wouldn’t cope with a long-distance move. Initially shy, Louie became a cuddle monkey who adores laps and affection. He went home with a young couple looking for a senior to spoil with love. He’s the first cat they’ve had as adults, although both grew up with cats. They were determined to get everything perfect for him so he’d be comfortable, even acquiring pet steps so he can get onto the bed easily. We've already had pictures of him curled up happily on their laps!

And lastly – our only non-tabby to be featured this week, sweet ex-stray Amos (2) was found in a terrible state, with one eye damaged beyond rescue, and a mouth full of bad teeth. Once he had the medical care he needed, the gentle boy began to recover, and we found he enjoyed gentle pats and secretly loved to throw toys around when nobody was watching. Amos has been taken home by a couple who’ve fostered for us before, and can give him a safe, amazing home since he has limited eyesight. He settled in quickly, happy to accept tummy rubs, pats and love.
