This week, I’ve had the absolute privilege of communicating with two world-class show jumpers, one of whom competed at the 2026 FEI World Championships in Aachen.
What I absolutely adore is seeing these young owners and riders considering not only the physical wellbeing of their horses, but also their emotional wellbeing.
It reflects a deeper understanding of horses as individuals with their own emotions, personalities and needs and in turn, creates a stronger connection, greater trust and a more meaningful partnership between horse and rider.
I believe we’re seeing a positive shift in the younger generation of equestrians. Rather than simply following the more conventional attitudes and methods that have traditionally been passed down, many young riders are asking why? looking more closely at how their horses feel and recognising that emotional wellbeing is just as important as physical health.
For me, this is exciting to see. It’s a move towards a more compassionate, connected and harmonious relationship between horse and human and one that can only benefit the future of our sport. ❤️💜🐎
