Over 300 DND Dog Walks recorded with the same device and then it has eventually become time to move to a new device. This spiffing new device features Horizon Locked video recording. In the world where 360° cameras are a reality, where up is always up no matter how you spin the camera, it should be no surprise.
Mr. Free theorised that something akin to Horizon Locked recording could become a thing back in 2006 and here we are twenty years later and it's finally real. For Mr. Free it was merely about wishing that his phone could record landscape orientation video but hold the phone 🤳🏾 straight up and down. "Surely it can just be done in Software?"
His vision at the time wasn't exactly what Horizon Lock mode does, because he only envisioned rotating the recording 90° to the orientation of the phone, not this fancy never changing horizon thing. So in essence the way he envisioned it, that's still not a thing. Horizon Lock does make it possible to rotate the phone in that manner, but it doesn't allow the horizon to change at all. Which makes the world feel a bit like playing a computer game.
This is a huge departure from how our previous content was made and we are a little afraid to make such a drastic change. Is it wrong to remove the tilting horizon from our content? Also not as much of the world fits into the frame because Horizon Lock works by excluding a significant percentage of what the wide angle sensor can actually see. Is this too high a price to pay?
