Central Allbreeds Dog Training School recently celebrated fifty years of training and is a fun, family-oriented, friendly club for all dogs (no matter what breed or mix of breeds) and their owners promoting training with positive reinforcement techniques. Activities we teach include lifestyle (domestic) training, Rally-O, agility, flygility, scenting and anything else that's positive and fun that

owners would like to teach their dogs to do. Dogs need to be over 4 months old and fully vaccinated. Our only other criteria are that the training is fun, and that you both enjoy it!

🐾 What does Canine Good Citizen actually involve?

We’ve had lots of questions about our upcoming CGC training and assessment, so here’s a quick look at what you’re working towards.

Canine Good Citizen is a Dogs New Zealand programme designed around the skills dogs need to be confident, well-mannered members of the community. There are four levels: Foundation, Bronze, Silver and Gold, with each level building on the last. (Dogs NZ)

At the Foundation level, you’ll work on things such as:

🐶 Handling, grooming and responsible care
🍽️ Good food manners
👋 Meeting and being calmly handled by friendly people
🚪 Controlled movement through doors and gates
🦮 Walking nicely on lead
👀 Walking calmly around people and distractions
🐕 Meeting another dog appropriately
⏳ Staying while the handler is separated
❤️ Playing and interacting positively with your dog

As you progress through the levels, the challenges become more advanced — including working around greater distractions, public places, vehicles, recalls, stops, off-lead work and eventually having another person handle and walk your dog. (Dogs NZ)

And here’s something we really like about CGC:

It’s not about having a perfect dog. It’s about having a good solid canine companion.

Dogs NZ describes CGC as a practical programme where handlers and dogs can progress at a pace that suits them. It’s about building the skills, confidence and understanding that help dogs navigate everyday life successfully. (Dogs NZ)

Our CGC training will help you understand what is required, break the skills down and work towards an assessment when you and your dog are ready.

Yesterday we asked you whether you used private dog parks?
There was a lot of hands that went up.
At CADTS we are very happy that we are able to provide our grounds for private hire to members that need a little extra space and a little private time to help fulfil their dog's needs.
Although it is quite difficult keeping the grounds 'in play' through the winter months and its a wee bit muddy at the moment, we'd still be quite interested to hear your thoughts on ways to improve our little area, especially as we head into Spring and Summer and see the grounds dry out more.

Noses up! If you have a dog in your family that's exceptional, you might have your sights on proving it by getting onto the Canine Good Citizen 'ladder'.
We will be running a C.G.C. Assessment at CADTS on Sunday 4th October.
Foundation, Bronze and Silver !
In order to make the day go swimmingly we are asking anyone who might want to take part in any of the levels to fill in your candidate form online!
