𝗙𝗔𝗕 𝗙𝗥𝗜𝗗𝗔𝗬 | 𝗫 𝗙𝗮𝗰𝘁𝗼𝗿 𝗣𝘂𝗹𝗹𝘀 𝗶𝗻 𝗦𝗼𝘂𝘁𝗵𝗹𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗩𝗼𝗹𝘂𝗻𝘁𝗲𝗲𝗿𝘀
Southland Jumping has one of the highest official-to-member ratios in the country, with 18 jumping officials and 84 jumping members. That’s an impressive ratio of 3 officials for every 14 members or 21%. President of Southland Showjumping Anna Clearwater says it’s a feather in the cap for the somewhat isolated group based in Gore, a seven-hour horse truck journey south of Christchurch. Meanwhile, Southland Showjumping is looking forward to their first big show of the season at the beautiful Gore A & P Showgrounds this Labour Weekend. 𝗛𝗜𝗚𝗛 𝗣𝗘𝗥𝗢𝗥𝗠𝗔𝗡𝗖𝗘 𝗘𝗩𝗘𝗡𝗧𝗜𝗡𝗚 | 𝗣𝗿𝗶𝗰𝗲𝘀 𝗦𝗽𝗲𝗮𝗿𝗵𝗲𝗮𝗱 𝗦𝘁𝗿𝗼𝗻𝗴 𝗞𝗶𝘄𝗶 𝗦𝗵𝗼𝘄𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗮𝘁 𝗣𝗮𝘂 𝟱*
World No.1 Tim Price is heading back to Les 5* Etoiles de Pau this week to defend his title at the last big European event of the season where he’ll be joined by three other Kiwi riders all keen to chase top honours, in Jonelle Price, Caroline Powell and Abby Jones.

The event gets underway on Thursday (France time) with the first horse inspection and beginning of the 5* dressage, which continues through Friday. Pierre Michelet (FRA) will test the field with his cross country course on Saturday, with the second horse inspection on Sunday morning followed by the jumping which will decide the final placings.

New Zealand has a strong history with the Pau 5* with Tim Price having twice won – 2025 on Jarillo and 2021 on Falco, Jonelle Price won in 2022 on Grappa Nera, and Andrew Nicholson won in 2012 with Nereo.

It is with great sadness that Equestrian Sports New Zealand acknowledges the passing of a valued member of our equestrian community who was participating at a showjumping event hosted by one of our sector partners. Our heartfelt condolences are extended to the rider's family, friends, fellow competitors, and all those affected by this loss. It’s been a great weekend for New Zealand eventers with a win for Monica Spencer in the US and top 10 placings for competitors at the FEI WBFSH Eventing World Breeding Championship for Young Horses in France.

Monica Spencer and Valkyrie headed home a 44-strong field in the CCI3*-L in Maryland at Fair Hill. The Kiwi combo finished on their 31.3 penalty point dressage score to take the win ahead of Sharon White (USA) aboard Arden Augustus on 32.1.

Caroline Powell and WLS Ravenscourt placed fourth in the six-year-old CCI2*-L championship in Le Lion d’Angers in France, with a score of 31.4 penalty points. They started with a 29.4 dressage test which saw them in second place and added just time in the cross country and showjumping phases. The 45-strong class was won by Ann-Catrin Bierlein (GER) aboard ACSI Daisy Dynamite who finished on 29.4.
Samantha Lissington and Orenzo were fifth in the seven-year-old CCI3*-L championship finishing on their dressage score of 31.3. Lara De Liedekerke-Meier (BEL) and Tara van Het Leliehof won the 52-strong class.

𝗛𝗜𝗚𝗛 𝗣𝗘𝗥𝗙𝗢𝗥𝗠𝗔𝗡𝗖𝗘 𝗝𝗨𝗠𝗣𝗜𝗡𝗚 - 𝗦𝗮𝗽𝗽𝗵𝗶𝗿𝗲 𝗦𝗵𝗶𝗻𝗲𝘀 𝗮𝘁 𝗦𝘁𝗼𝗻𝗲𝘄𝗮𝗹𝗹

What a win for Katie Meredith and Sapphire SSNZ who won the 1.5m Shugg Group Grand Prix at the Divas Beverages Stonewall International in Australia at the weekend. The Kiwis were double clear to head home the 15-strong field with a super quick 52.57 secs second round time. Coming in for second was Rhys Stones aboard Riverton All Star who crossed the flags in 58.21 seconds. Nine had come back for the second round to be challenged once again by Mark Atkins course.
Congratulations too, to Emma Gillies and Benrose Black Jack who won the Stal Tops Young Rider championship, pipping 32 other combinations to the title! 12 combinations jumped clear to go through to the jump-off where 8 combinations jumped clear. Emma was the fastest with a time of 34.87, with runner-up Alexander Jang and Four Roses 13 coming home in 35.84.
Earlier in the show, Emma and Double J Suzie Q were second in a young rider class.
She also teamed up with Double J Suzie Q to win the 1.25-1.30m seven-year-old and under championship jump-off class. Thirty-one started the class with 14 coming back for the jump-off where the top 11 were all double clear. Emma came home in 27.04 seconds with Chris Burton and Deo Chameleon in second in 27.56.

A call for EOI from Blind Sport NZ: National Vision Impairment (VI) Classification Opportunity Friday 13th November in Auckland for Blind Sport NZ Members.
Blind Sport NZ is seeking expressions of interest for a potential National VI Classification Opportunity in Auckland on Friday 13 November 2026.
To help determine demand and feasibility, please contact Blind Sport NZ to confirm your interest or email [email protected] by 12 noon on Monday 19 October 2026. This is for those athletes that want to get a national classification for competitive sport. When you contact Blind Sport NZ, please specify the sport(s) that you are looking to compete in. For organisations receiving this please pass on to relevant athletes to get in touch.
As this would be a one-day session, appointment numbers would be limited and only a small number of athletes could be accommodated.
Please note that this is an expression of interest only. It does not confirm that the classification session will proceed or that an appointment will be available.
To be eligible, should the opportunity proceed, athletes must:
