BIRDS BIRDS BIRDS 🦜

We have some gorgeous parrots looking for their forever homes!

Kevin & Gavin - Lovebirds
These two little cuties will bring so much colour into your life. They’re super adorable but very independent - they like their own space. They’re not keen on handling but are happy to be watched while they do their adorable lovebird things. They’d be best suited to a large aviary or big indoor cage.

Green & Girl - Ringneck & Alexandrine
These two were found dumped on the North Shore. They’re absolutely stunning, but very shy and don’t trust people yet. We don’t know what their life was like before, but they’re extremely scared. They would do best in a large aviary where they can feel safe.

Snow - Ringneck
Snow is a pretty lady who LOVES her toys. We tried to bond her with other birds and she said “nope, mine!” She’s happiest with her own space and all her toys to herself. An aviary would suit her perfectly.

We’ll also have a hand-tame cockatiel ready soon, and possibly some lorikeets - those are currently on hold.

If you’re interested in adding a beautiful feathered friend to your family, please reach out for more info 💜

MASSIVE THANK YOU TO BUGS 2 U!🐛

As most of you know, we love Bugs 2U here at Be Kind.

Not only do they have the most delicious, healthy bugs that our reptiles go crazy for, but they also support us in the most amazing way.

This week they donated a huge package of bugs for our reptiles - crickets, locusts, and mealworms. All the favourites!

With everyone starting to wake up here, it’s the perfect time for a big feed. As you can see, Charlie our resident dragon is loving the locusts, and Freddy’s even saving some bugs on his face for later 😆

Massive thank you to the Bugs 2 U team. If you ever need bugs for your reptiles, birds, or any other bug-loving pets, I highly recommend them!

HAPPY HOME FOR HELIX🏡

Helix went to her forever home the other day and she’s already so relaxed.

When she first came into rescue we were warned that she could be aggressive. But so far, we’re seeing the complete opposite.

In foster she loved lying next to people in the sun. And now in her forever home she’s already settling in beautifully - she even sits by the door when she wants to come out.

It’s so rewarding to see. This is why I put so much care into matching animals with the right people. When it’s the right fit, it just feels right for both the human and the animal. And that makes me so happy.

I’m currently laid up in bed with the flu, so if I’m a bit slow to reply I do apologise. But I had to share this good news first ❤️

HOME NEEDED FOR LOLA

Unfortunately Lola is back looking for her forever home.

She went on a trial, but it just wasn’t the right fit. So we’re on the hunt again for somewhere she can happily retire.

The good news? She’s currently in foster and charming everyone she meets with her beauty and big personality.

Lola is a very loud little lady with a lot of love to give. If you’ve been thinking about adding her to your family, we’d love to hear from you.

Please message us for more info 💜

WELCOME GOKU🦎

Today we welcomed this tiny little lady into rescue.

Unfortunately, as you can tell, she’s had a really rough time. She was withheld from her owner during a breakup, and she only just got her back. When she saw the condition Goku was in, she reached out and asked us to take her. Of course we said yes.

Goku is severely underweight at just 24g. She has a serious eye issue, MBD, and is very dehydrated.

My incredible friends and fosters were able to collect her today and have already started her on the road to recovery.

I was so nervous because geckos this skinny with eye issues often won’t eat. But she’s already had her first bug! 🎉
We have to take feeding very slowly to avoid refeeding syndrome, but that first bite is a huge step.

If you’d like to donate toward her recovery - whether it’s for vet visits or more delicious bugs for her to try - we would be so grateful.

HUGE MILESTONE 🎉

Some of you might remember Sahara. She came into rescue a few months ago refusing to eat.

She went to one of our amazing foster homes for some one-on-one care. It’s been a mission. She didn’t want any kind of bugs and was having to be syringe fed. She also has an eye injury that needed ointment every day.

She’s been a tricky one, that’s for sure. We’ve all been so worried about her.

But yesterday I got the best message… she ate 2 crickets!! I nearly cried. I’m so proud of her.

And I’m unbelievably thankful to Lesley for being the absolute best foster mum and helping Sahara through this journey.

She still has a while to go, but gosh, this is such a big step forward. We’re all cheering for you, Sahara ❤️

COMMUNITY REHOME
Special needs bird.

This is Peri, hes roughly 7yrs old. He can't fly, at all, never will. He is missing most of one wing and most of his toes - dont let that fool you, he gets around very well though rope/vet wrapped perches and ramps are a must to make it easier for him. He LOVES attention though is a bit sassy too.

Little backstory - Steph was given Peri about 5 years ago to be a companion for her tiny, flightless cockatiel Bee. Unfortunately she passed away recently and Peri is now obsessing over her sulphur cockatoo 🤦‍♀️ Needless to say, this isnt safe for him in any way, shape or form.

Located in Whangarei. Please message Steph if your interested 0226078104

NEW LOGO!

We thought it was time for a refresh at Be Kind ✨

Our old logo served us well for so many years, but we wanted something new that shows a bit more of what we do here.

And the best part? Our new website will be up and running shortly too!

A massive thank you to Hartley from Auckland Cavy Care for designing our logo and setting up the website. As some of you know, I’m a bit slow when it comes to technology, so I’m super grateful to have such an amazing person helping me out.

We can’t wait for you to see more!

MY HEART IS SO FULL! 💛

Since Paul the cockatoo arrived, he’s been so shut down. No noises, just sitting there. Terrified of humans and looking so sad.

Yesterday we introduced him to the cockatoo flock - Albert and Pearl.
Omg, my heart just exploded.

He was instantly more curious. He tried to cuddle up to Albert and Albert was such a good boy. He allowed it for a second before asking for "help" - which is him holding out his foot to be moved 😂 Even though he can fly!

Then Paul met Pearl, and they were so comfortable with each other. Pearl is the more tolerant one and let him sit next to her for ages just hanging out.

Later in the afternoon, Albert and Pearl started their avo “scream sesh” - where they yell and make all sorts of fun noises. We’re very pro-scream in this house. We don’t want to silence their sparkle.

And then Paul did it... he let out a little noise. He looked terrified right after, until he realized we praised him. Then he joined in the scream sesh and let his feelings out. It was so beautiful to see him realize he can use his voice and not get told off for it.

That’s not all - he even accepted scratches from Liam and me. He’s been extra fearful of females, so letting me touch him was a huge deal.

I’m honestly so happy he’s finally coming out of his shell and we’re getting to see glimpses of his personality. I just hope he knows he’s safe here.

We’ve got you, Paul ❤️
