Molly the Spoodle came for her daycare trial this afternoon! She's super sweet and possibly the most zen oodle I've ever met 😍 she chose a great day to come as we had all oodles in daycare today! Can't wait to have you back, Molly 🐶🐾

We're currently booked up around 3 weeks in advance for grooming, so please book online ASAP and don't miss out! This also means if you miss your appointment we won't be able to rebook you for a while. Please remember to arrive BEFORE your appointment time so we can fit your dog in without impacting the next customer. If you have lots of special instructions, or if it's your first time bringing your dog to us, or if they'll need some time to pee/poo outside, please allow a little extra time. Any arrivals after the 15 minute grace period will be considered a 'no-show' (ie., we won't be able to groom your dog today and you'll need to pay your balance in full before rebooking). We do send out reminder texts and emails as a courtesy, but recommend that you make a note on your calendar at the time of booking as well, just in case!

Jeffrey the Spoodle puppy came for his second puppy groom today! Short, regular grooming sessions help puppies become confident and familiar with the grooming process, allowing us to use our sharp tools to get the job done. Dogs who haven't been exposed to grooming early on can be fearful, reactive or too wriggly on the table for us to groom them safely 🐾

We've been pretty quiet on socials lately which is what tends to happen when we're busy, and we definitely have been! If you're looking for a grooming appointment we're currently booked approximately 4 weeks ahead... Which for this time of year is quite unusual! A sign of the times that our little town just keeps on growing (and we absolutely love meeting all the new local doggies!).

Here's lovely Betty the Cavoodle after her groom today. She's been coming to us since she was a puppy (and she's still just as cute!!) 🥰🐶🐾

The Hound Hub has been on the market for 6 months now, so I thought I'd give it a little push!

We are keen to begin our next adventure in life but so far, although we've had heaps of interest, we've yet to find our buyer. We would love to see The Hound Hub continue with somebody new and motivated.

This is a booming little business with plenty of room for growth - we're the only grooming salon in Wanaka and our region is growing SO rapidly... We see multiple brand new dogs every single week alongside our lovely loyal regulars.

The business would be best suited to a dog groomer (or somebody willing to put themselves through a training course). I'm also happy to stay on for a little bit to help out while you settle in (dependant on timings).

Asking price recently reduced to $75000... But open to offers!

Pet grief is hard for everyone, no matter how old you are. But I'll never forget how I felt when my first family pet (Bitsy the rabbit) passed away when I would have been about 4 or 5 years old 😢 I stumbled across this beautiful children's book that I think is definitely worth a share, in case it might be helpful for the little people in your life ❤️🐾

🐾 Meet our regulars🐾

Bailey has been a Hound Hub regular since we very first opened daycare 4 years ago. She's super cuddly and is much loved by staff and dogs alike (especially her best friend, Ralphy!). We love to see Bailey so excited on her way in the door in the mornings, and it's so lovely that she's equally as excited when mum or dad pick her up again! We also groom her, but she definitely isn't so happy about that bit 😅

We've been so lucky to meet not one but TWO adorable puppies this week, who each came in for their very first puppy intro grooms 😍 🐶
Ardie the Labradoodle/Retrodoodle and Honey the Spoodle 🐾

Our puppy intro grooms are a no-pressure, 30 minute session and are really about making your pup's very first grooming experience a comfortable and happy one - getting them used to standing on the table, all the new noises and smells, and assessing where they are in terms of handling (ie., are they going to let us touch them where we need to in order for us to do a full groom later on). Both Ardie and Honey have owners who have been putting the work in when it comes to getting them used to brushing and handling, which made these sessions go so smoothly 🥰

Unfortunately some breeders are telling new puppy owners they dont need grooming until they're a year old, but leaving it this long risks your dog being so scared when they finally get to us because it's all so brand new (and after a year it's a big grooming job rather than something we've been gently working at over time). At this point it's really hit or miss whether we'll actually be able to groom them as a stressed and anxious dog isn't going to stand nicely long enough for us to be able to use our sharp tools safely. We recommend bringing them for their first session as early as 12 weeks, and no later than 4-5 months old (while they're still in the formative learning period and before they start to develop fear associations to new things, exactly the same as with socialisation).

Do you have a short haired breed who is shedding a lot at the moment? Those fine, needly little hairs get everywhere 😭 our de-shedding service uses a 3 step system called Furex - a cleansing and conditioning treatment designed to remove loose hair and lift and release the undercoat. A curry comb like the one in the video helps you keep on top of it at home - it's easy to use and it'll feel like a gentle massage for your dog... They love it!
