If you book either the “Lake Ride / Big Hill Loop / Hut Ride” there is always a small chance of that bloody Northerly wind.

We are incredibly sheltered on all of our rides, but exactly where you have lunch is where it hits it the hardest. Luckily we have this beautiful spot we can go to which is so cute. It is hidden in the trees, and brings you back in time when someone used to live here.

Its a much better place to have a break for humans and horses.

One of the hardest part about accomodating people is making sure they are up for the ride. On our “Lake Ride”, “Big Hill Loop”, and “Hut Ride” we have some super fun and fast canters.

We often think we should call it galloping not cantering, because that’s definitely what it feels like. We mostly have Standardbreds who need to have a bit of speed to be able to canter.

It is super fun, but as much as we love giving experienced riders that feeling of freedom, we never want someone to feel out of their depth.

That’s why we match riders to the right horse, ride and group based on their experience. Some people come to us wanting to canter as fast as possible, while others are much happier with a gentle trot. Both are completely fine.

The goal is always the same: “to have an incredible day on horseback”

And yes… sometimes we get to have a little too much fun when there are no customers around

Our horses get the absolute best food ⭐️

We give them a bucket before a ride so their tummies are packed so no acid slushes around.

On the big rides during high season they get an extra bucket halfway at the beach again, and then of course after a ride.

We have a lot of ex racehorses and some of them I think have lived a harsher life than others. Plus they are not naturally big eaters. So some of them we bring in on the daily to make sure they get fed extra.

We always have 3 big roundbales of hay and lucerne in the paddock so they can forage constantly.

These horses deserve the best, they are so kind, willing, hard working, so it is our duty to make sure we treat them as best as we can.

“Lookout Loop” - (allow 2.5-3 hours) Designed for intermediate riders, with plenty of opportunities to trot and canter while exploring hidden valleys and spectacular viewpoints.

“Lake Ride” - (allow 5 hours) The ultimate half-day experience for experienced riders. Spend the day riding along the lake to a remote beach where you enjoy lunch. This ride has a lot of fun spots to canter / gallop, and it is the best day out on horseback.

I wish this was the case 😂 But I still am a fulltime mom at the moment. However little Maddy will go to daycare soon for 2 days per week meaning I can do a bit more guiding again.

And to be honest I can’t wait for it! I not only miss the riding, its also the physical activity around getting horses ready, welcoming you guys and showing you our piece of paradise, and be with my horses again.

Maybe I should do a “Ride with Sam” product?! If you want to be a guide, start your own business, buy your first horse, or anything else you wanna chat about, that would be your chance to ask anything you want. But not sure if there is a need for that 😄

How are we liking this reel with the landscape videos stacked?! I love this trend on social media at the moment. Landscape just does the scenery much better justice, so I am all for it.

Today we have a stunning day here in Wanaka, no cloud in the sky, nice temperature, and 4 lucky riders who are about to go on the Lake Ride. We count our blessings on these winter days 🩵❄️
