Meet Bea. Our biggest puppy. With absolutely no idea how big she actually is. 😂

Bea loves playing, making friends, and ensuring Bozley never experiences a moment's peace.

But Fridays? Fridays are special.

That's when Poppy comes to daycare, and these two enormous puppies get together to conduct their very important research into just how much chaos two dogs can create.

And then there's that face. ❤️

That ridiculously adorable, innocent little face.

The sort of face that says, "Who, me?"

TWO TRIAL DOGS, ONE NEW FRIENDSHIP… AND SOMETHING VERY ODD IN THE NATURE AREA. 👀😂

Today we welcomed Walter and Luna for their trial day. ❤️

These two are family pack mates, so they started the morning together — familiar face, new place, nice and easy.

Then we split them up a bit to see how they went making their own friends.

And Luna found Rascal.

That was that. 😂

Those two spent the afternoon tearing around after each other like they’d been mates for years.

Trial day verdict: new place, new friends, plenty of fun. 🐶❤️

Meanwhile, the rest of the crew got on with the usual important daycare business — zooming, sniffing, wrestling, investigating things that were none of their concern and generally keeping themselves very busy.

And yes.

There was more ball throwing. 🎾

I am officially over it.

Bailey is not.

Apparently my request to retire from ball duties has been declined. 😂

And then, while I was in the Nature Area…

I found this.

No explanation.
No paperwork.
Just pine cones and a suspicious amount of confidence. 👀

I’m choosing not to ask questions yet.

BENJI WAS LATE. THE COWS HAVE QUESTIONS. 🐄😂

Benji rolled in late this morning, and we're fairly certain the cows wanted to see his late pass.

Then he went looking for them…

No cows.

So after months of unwavering devotion to the bovine community, Benji has apparently broadened his interests.

Rabbits. 🐇👀

We'll see how the cows take the news. 😂

Meanwhile, the Big Dogs had a MASSIVE ball day. 🎾

All this ball throwing has given me a pretty impressive right arm. 💪🎾

Bailey remains unimpressed.

Apparently, for Christmas, she'd like Canine Collective to employ a competent ball thrower. 😂🎄

The Little Dogs, meanwhile, had their usual quiet and dignified day.

Barking. Chasing. Zoomies. Running around like lunatics.

Very refined. Very peaceful. 😂🐾

Basically, a perfectly normal day at Canine Collective.

And speaking of running late…

Benji wasn't the only one.

We've spent the afternoon trying to come up with a system to deal with the 400 photographs I take every day.

So far, we've successfully organised one thing.

🌦️ CAN YOUR DOG ACTUALLY PREDICT THE WEATHER?

Forget the weather app. Apparently we've got a Labrador. 🌦️🐶

Have you ever noticed your dog behaving differently and then, a little while later, the weather changes?

So can dogs actually predict the weather?

Not quite in the “Rain at 3pm, clearing by dinner” sense. 😂

But dogs have extraordinary hearing and smell and are very good at noticing changes and patterns in their environment.

They may pick up on distant sounds, changing wind and other cues associated with approaching weather before we've paid any attention to them.

And dogs learn patterns.

If certain sights, sounds or smells have repeatedly been followed by a storm, they can start reacting to those clues.

So your dog probably isn't secretly running their own meteorological service.

But they may be noticing something you haven't yet.

Although if they can accurately predict Auckland weather…

we're putting them on payroll. 😂🐾

HELLO, GOODBYE. 👋❤️🐾

Today was a bit of both at Canine Collective.

First, a big HELLO and welcome back to Emme! 🥰

She's been away, we've sorely missed her, and it was so lovely having her back with the crew today.

And then, unfortunately, a GOODBYE to Ruby. ❤️

Today was Ruby's last day with us as she finished her work experience.

She's been a brilliant extra pair of hands, helped out with all sorts, and — most importantly according to the dogs — provided plenty of additional pats, cuddles and attention. 😂🐶

Thank you, Ruby, for all your help. We've loved having you as part of our slightly chaotic little world and wish you all the best for whatever comes next. ❤️
