Watching Iolaus’ oldest baby all grown up fills me with pride.
At just 4½ years old, Aroha is growing into such a lovely mare. I had the pleasure of watching her on her second beach ride yesterday, and she was incredibly calm, sensible, and relaxed.
From her quiet, confidence-building liberty start with Ramona Berndt, to the miles and schooling Michelle Barlow has been putting into her recently, she's had a wonderful foundation and it's really showing. I'm so proud of the horse she's becoming and looking forward to having her back home and continuing her journey.
Watching Aroha grow and develop has really highlighted just how versatile a good Shire cross can be. Whether it's hacking, trekking, pleasure riding, hunting, dressage, or simply being a dependable partner, they really do have so much to offer. I can't wait to see more of Iolaus' offspring out and about finding their own paths and making their owners proud.
Iolaus now has babies spread all around New Zealand, and I'd love to see how they're all growing up!
