My office for the next few weeks looks a bit different!!! I’m doing a 6 week AI tech assist role for LIC…. I’ll try fitting a few horses in the evenings but the next 3/4 weeks are going to be pretty full on as I’m “cowing” then “humaning”!!
So please just bear with….! 🐮

Another BLINDER of a day in Fairlie yesterday… was a big but great day. 10 horses, 1 hooman and about 5 hours of driving! I slept like a log yesterday.

Great new case yesterday- this honey of a QH mare. Went down in the float and came up under the bar. Snapped the tips off 3 thoracic SPs (spinous Processes- the sticky upwards bits on their vertebra) and lots of soft tissue damage.

It’s healing really well but was really great to get hands on to help work through the fascial and muscle contractions around the wound plus some gentle mobility work segmentally through the thoracic spine. Her ribs and diaphragm were also very braced and as her whole topline was contracted, there was stuff to address in her poll and sacrum. Totally different standing posture at the end- Jo, when will you remember to get the “before” photos??!!!

Be great to see her again next visit.

Love my Fairlie days 🥰

Sept 2-4th is the next Cambridge run. A few free spaces so far this trip so message if you want an appointment....

Fairlie peeps, do we trust the weather enough for a mid September run....??

All the local Christchurch and surrounds are as normal!

Enjoy the rest of Sunday

Love a good before and after.

This one’s a rider tho! I did treat one of her beautiful horses first then it was her turn. VERY wonky wee donkey!
You can see the asymmetrical shoulders but she was also twisted left through her lower thorax and collapsing with weight onto right seat bone.
As she says “I knew I was wonky cos my horse was bending right beautifully and I was still facing left” 😂😂

Shows how important as a rider it is to get checked out regularly too.

(Also highlighting some before and after hair)

Lower back pain.
We have all heard of it and probably most of us have experienced it at some point. I'll have a brief chat about 2 of the most common causes of lower back pain and some differences between them. (please remember that there can be overlap of symptoms, it's not a clean cut and dry difference, bodies do not work like that!!)
FACET JOINT PAIN:
* localized often 1 sided pain often a dull pain with sudden sharp pain on movement.
* commonly worse with twisting, extension (leaning back)-eg turning in bed, getting up from sitting, and prolonged standing.
* forward bending often gives relief, sitting can give relief
*referred pain generally stays above the knee- commonly aching in thighs or glutes
DISC PAIN:
*often a deep dull or burning pain that might radiate down a leg
*commonly worse with bending forwards, sitting, lifting and coughing
*often relieved by standing or leaning backwards, walking
*pain can refer all the way to the foot
*morning stiffness and tenderness that can improve once up and walking
The important thing to remember is that it's not always possible to exactly identify the cause of your back pain, as several different tissues are usually involved.
As an Osteopath I can help reduce the discomfort and improve your mobility allowing the body to help heal itself.
Everyone responds differently (in terms of numbers of sessions needed) but commonly a facet problem will resolve in 2-4 weeks while a disc injury can be 6-12 weeks
Feel free to contact me if you want any information on how could help!
