The hum of the air-conditioning is the loudest thing in the room. A patch of winter sun has moved across the floor and three of our guests have shifted with it, stretched out long on their shelves. Someone's purring softly two cabins down.

No bins clattering. No dogs barking. No doorbells. Just the steady rhythm of cats doing what cats do best, which is absolutely nothing at all.
