RACE RESULTS | WEDNESDAY 21ST OCTOBER

🥇 Race 1 – YTOA – 1st
Jockey: Masa Hashizume

A really smart win by Fitzy today! He dominated out in front and ran away for an impressive victory, showing there’s plenty more in store for him.

A great ride by Masa, who took all the bad luck out of the equation and rated him perfectly in front. A very rewarding win for everyone involved!

🥉 Race 5 – ZEFFERT – 3rd
Jockey: Masa Hashizume

Another encouraging effort from Zeffert today, despite a messy start to the race. He was on and off the bridle early and struggled to find a nice rhythm, but to his credit, he picked himself up and continued to try really hard right to the line.

He’s really turned a corner since arriving with us, and it’s pleasing to see his attitude and race-day performances heading in the right direction. Hopefully, we can continue to build on this positive form.

A big thank you to our team at home, who continue to do an excellent job with the horses. The hard work and dedication behind the scenes never go unnoticed.

And a huge congratulations and thank you to our wonderful owners. Your ongoing support means so much, and we simply couldn’t do what we do without you all!

A few of the team back at the stables after their morning work.

With the races on today, the horses are staying in for the day, and with the warmer weather, they’re enjoying a break from their rugs too!

Misty (outside) and Surpriseabelle (inside) stretching their legs around the track this morning.

Both fillies are coming along nicely, working well and continuing to improve with each outing.

It’s exciting to see their progress as we build towards the next stage of their preparations, with jumpouts and trials just around the corner.

TRACKWORK RIDERS WANTED

With increasing horse numbers, Lock Racing is looking for two experienced trackwork riders to join our team at Te Aroha Racecourse.

We’re looking for capable, confident riders with experience riding horses at all stages of their preparation, from young and inexperienced horses through to fast work, gallops and jumpouts.

The positions can be full-time or part-time, with opportunities to attend trials and racedays as part of the role.

Ideally, applicants will already be in New Zealand and available to start immediately. Sponsorship is available for the right applicants, along with accommodation.

If you’re an experienced rider looking to join a growing stable with a great team of horses, we’d love to hear from you.

Here is our lovely Santono Aladdin filly out of Lovelight, a half-sister to our promising mare Jungle Love.

Buffy, as she’s known around the stable, is a filly who has taken a little time, much like the rest of her family. With those long legs, she’s needed the time to grow, strengthen and mature into herself, and she’s really starting to come together nicely.

She has a wonderful nature — very willing, eager to please and takes everything we ask of her in her stride.

We’re really enjoying watching Buffy develop and are excited to see what the future holds for her.

We’ve been patient with this one…

We’ve had a few Time Tests through the stable now and we really like them, but one thing we’ve found is that they definitely seem to appreciate a bit of time.

This guy is by Time Test out of My Game, a Montjeu mare, so there’s plenty in his pedigree to suggest patience was always going to be important.

He’s just turned four and is now having his first serious preparation. Physically, he simply wasn’t strong enough earlier on to carry himself and cope with the workload we wanted to give him, so rather than push him, we made the decision to bring him along slowly and give him the time he needed — hopefully with the long-term rewards in mind.

He’s certainly been a slow developer, but he’s really starting to shape into a lovely type. The more work he does, the better he gets, and with the conditioning work he’s doing, there’s still plenty more furnishing and strengthening to come.

Most importantly, he’s enjoying his work, thriving on his routine and continuing to improve.

Sometimes patience really is the best training tool.

Plenty of smiles to be had when you get to ride one of your favourites in the mornings!

I’ll Be Home Soon, or Charm as he’s known around the stable, and Papu have formed a great connection. They work so well together, and it’s lovely to watch.

By Charm Spirit out of a Zabeel mare, Charm can be quite a sprightly character at times, so keeping him relaxed, settled and happy in his work is always our main aim — and as you can see, Papu has certainly achieved that!

He’s a lovely horse to have around the stable and we feel he’s really developed during his winter break. He’s come back into work looking bigger, stronger and more furnished, but just as pleasing is how much he’s matured mentally.

We’re really happy with how he’s progressing and looking forward to seeing what this preparation brings.

Hello Youmzain x Lady Krovanh 2YO Filly

Our lovely 2YO filly has now completed her breaking-in process and we couldn’t be happier with how she’s handled everything so far.

She’s been working nicely around the big track and has taken everything in her stride. She’s still got plenty of growing, furnishing and filling out to do, so she’ll now head out to the paddock for a well-earned break and hopefully enjoy plenty of sunshine!

Being bred to get over a bit of distance, there’s certainly no rush with her and we’re happy to give her all the time she needs to develop.

With the Hello Youmzain progeny really firing on both sides of the Tasman, we’re very pleased to have this girl in the stable and look forward to seeing what the future holds for her.
