🐟 Fish Spotlight 🐠

Native to the Paraguay and Paraná River basins, Gymnogeophagus balzanii is a real standout with its earthy colours, shimmering blue highlights, and the impressive forehead hump that mature males develop.

These peaceful cichlids love spending their time sifting through the sand in search of food, so a soft sandy substrate lets them show off their natural behaviour.

Have you kept these guys before or are they on your dream list?

Did you know...?

These adorable bottom-dwellers can gulp air from the water's surface and absorb oxygen through a specialised section of their intestine! 🤯

It's a fascinating adaptation that helps them survive in environments where oxygen levels in the water can be low.

important note: Corydoras naturally gulp air, but frequent surface gasping by fish generally can indicate a water-quality or oxygen problem, so it's worth checking the tank if it becomes excessive.

🐟 Fish Spotlight 🐠

Spotted Silver Dollars are a social fish which do best when kept in groups and they need a spacious aquarium with plenty of room to swim as they grow. They’re omnivores, but plant matter makes up a significant part of their diet, meaning live aquatic plants may become a snack!

Have you kept these guys before or are they on your dream list?
