🎙️ What the Fluff?!

One of the most special things about Moggies is the incredible community that has grown around us - and today we wanted to give a little shoutout to two very talented members of it!

Foster parents Carina & Mark have helped bring Carina’s new podcast, whatthefluff_podcast to life - and we have the honour to be part of the very first episode featuring a little look into the world of Moggies 🐱❤️

From fostering and rescue life to the realities, rewards and occasional chaos that come with helping cats find their way home, it’s a chance to see a side of rescue you don’t always get to see.

CHIP 🍪

At 5 months old, Chip is currently the youngest member of our rescue - and she’s still with us because she’s been a tough little cookie to crack!

Progress slowed when her bigger, more confident siblings were adopted, so to keep the ball rolling, we introduced her to HQ residents 🐈‍⬛🐈

Like many stray born kittens, Chip is a real cat’s cat, and her love for her fellow fosters has helped her realise that domestic bliss isn’t so bad after all!

They’ve shown her that this is a safe place, that she can relax, and that people can be part of her family too.

She’s still finding her confidence, but we’re seeing a chippier Chip each day 🥰

On day four there have been no sightings of the cats, or food taken from the traps we set to safely catch them.

Unfortunately, our main trap was taken during daylight hours, and given the circumstances, we’ve made the difficult decision to remove the remaining traps.

A huge thank you to our volunteers who gave up their weekends and work days to monitor, check and reset them ❤️

We’ve asked locals to keep an eye out, so we’re hoping the cats may seek shelter at nearby homes and that someone will spot them.

And if the person who took the trap is reading this, please get in touch, we’d genuinely love to hear from you.

One trap may not seem like much.

But to a small rescue, and to the people in our community who pour their hearts, time and resources into helping animals who have been abandoned, displaced or simply born into circumstances they cannot control, each trap represents an opportunity to help someone who may otherwise go without.

ABANDONED cats at the intersection of Oropi Gorge Rd and Pyes Pa Rd📍

We’ve received a report that at least two cats were abandoned in a cardboard box at the intersection of Oropi Gorge Road and Pyes Road just after 3pm today.

We are looking for:

🐈‍⬛ One white cat with black markings.
🐈 Possibly a ginger cat.

A volunteer has already checked the area but unfortunately couldn’t see or hear them over the traffic.

If you are in the area and are able to safely help look, please PM us. Even keeping an eye out while driving through could make a difference.

And if you, or someone you know, abandoned these cats, please contact us. Getting them out of harms way is our main concern, if you have a photo of them, please send it through.

The reality is that abandoning domestic cats in an unfamiliar area is almost a guaranteed death sentence. The sooner they’re found, the greater their chances of survival.

Please help us find them and share this widely, particularly with anyone who lives in the Oropi/Pyes Road area.

🍊 MAMA MARMALADE - RETIRED FROM THE BABY-MAKING BUSINESS 🍊

Ms Marmalade is back in the spotlight.
Chunky. Ginger. Fabulous.

And officially DONE with motherhood☝️

Marmalade came into care in January with NINE kittens. Yes, nine 😳

Marmalade is one of the unfortunate realities of backyard breeding - a mum who had spent her life producing kittens, arriving into our care shut down, wary and understandably unsure about people.

Her kittens grew up and found homes, while she got busy learning how to CAT.

These days she’s a happy, roly-poly ginger girl who is curious about the other cats, enjoys romping down the hallway, and has discovered that life can actually be pretty sweet.

We suspect she’s a young adult, and somewhere between 2-4 years. There is a lifetime full of better times ahead of her.

Her perfect home 🏡

Somewhere quiet. With someone patient. With plenty of snacks.

She can be suspicious of newcomers, (we see it as conducting a thorough background check before accepting anyone into her social circle), so are happy to offer a trial to make sure it’s the right fit.

Ultimately, she’s looking for the next chapter of her life - one where she gets to be the baby, not make the babies.

Marmalade is ready to find out what life looks like when she’s finally just Marmalade 🍊

GOOD IN THE HOOD is back for 2026 🙌

And we’re incredibly excited to be one of four amazing local charities chosen for Z Energy’s Good in the Hood fundraiser at 11th Ave Z Station!

Special cases. Special people ❤️

With no young, or super confident kittens currently in care, it’s time for our oddballs to take the spotlight.

They’re our older kittens. The wildlings. The strays. The long termers who took their time to figure out that people can be trusted, or that walls around them could feel like a home.

There’s something pretty incredible about earning the love and trust of an animal who started life with the odds stacked against them.

When we say yes to these cats, we do it knowing they’re likely to be with us longer. Not because they need more work - in many ways, self-sufficiency is hardwired from an early age - but because finding the right family for them is more challenging.

And at the end of their rescue journey, it takes special people to see the potential in a cat that others might overlook.

A few of these oddballs are currently on trial but we wanted to share the good news about Norton - he’s home 🏡

George 👑

George is a mature tabby who’d been hanging around a tight-knit neighbourhood for a few weeks.

Always just out of reach.

And constantly on the lookout for where his next meal would come from.

He wasn’t part of the local cat register, so when a kind couple realised he wasn’t just passing through, they put up a community post hoping someone recognised him.

From there, things started looking a lot brighter for George.

One of our rescue community volunteers stepped in with a microchip scanner and offered a simple indoor set up so George could get out of the cold while everyone waited for answers.

The verdict? No microchip. But he was sporting two very healthy testicles… both of which disappeared on Monday through our Community Desexing Programme when nobody came forward for him.

George didn’t mind.

Forty eight hours into his ‘capture’, he was stretched out on the coffee table like he’d lived there forever.

Whether George was once owned or a stray, one thing is certain: his rescuers have agreed he won’t be living homeless anymore. They didn’t need support with rehoming him - everyone agreed he’d done that himself.

Stories like George’s are a great reminder that community problems are often best solved with community solutions.

A neighbourhood cat register.
A local microchip scanner.
A community noticeboard.
The support of a rescue.

And people who cared enough to turn concern into action.

Rescues are often pin holed as the go-to solution, but foster capacity for adult cats is hard to come by and when it comes to strays, we can often make the biggest difference in a supportive role.

George also represents an outcome where if everyone plays a small part, the outcome can be a bigger change.
