TAUPO DOG TRAINING CLUB is an associated All Breeds Society of the New Zealand Kennel Club, and approved to conduct Championship Shows in Obedience and Agility. You don’t have to be competitive, just to have a love of dogs and be prepared to put in the time for practice. The Objects Of The Club Are:
To help local owners train their dogs in basic obedience. To promote the sport of dog training by conducting classes at different levels within the different codes, i.e. Any dog? YES. – All breeds are welcome from 5 months of age. (Puppy classes are held for puppies aged 12 weeks to 5 months subject to availability of instructors.) Handlers who graduate from Basics are then eligible to further their training in Competition Obedience, Canine Good Citizen, Rally-O and Working Trials, and once dogs reach 12 months of age can begin Foundation Agility. What Will The Dog Be Taught? Acceptable behavior with other dogs and people. To walk at heel on lead. To come when called. To stay in a sit or down position on command. Who Trains The Dog? You do, within class and at least five times a week between classes. You need only to train for a few minutes each time but it must be regular. If you are not prepared to do this then you won’t get the results.

A great day for Taupo Obedience competitors today at the Taupo Dog Training Club Obedience Show with Anna Crawley and Buzby placing 1st in Beginners, Fiona Denton and Image also placing 1st with their first qualifying win in Novice and Vicky Graham and Cohen placing 5th in Test A. TERM 4 REGISTRATIONS

The clock is ticking, tick tock. As the White Rabbit said "I'm late, I'm late for a very important date", and that date is Monday 12 October at 5pm for that is when Term 4 registrations close so make sure you don't hesitate.

We are taking a breath having completed our first scent work trial at Tauhara College.
Huge congratulations to our members who worked their dogs in various levels:
Novice - Jenny Mitchell & Huxley
Liz Wallace & Jordy
These teams were new to trials and achieved their first qualifying certificate! Great work!
Anna Crawley and Buzby gained their Novice Title after just three trials. This team are well on their way to a Super Star qualification (five qualifying).
Fiona Denton & Image just missed their Novice qualifying.

Christine Henry & Beau gained a Novice Super Star award.
Intermediate - here we have the two Lilys - litter sisters owned by Lynne Henry and Sue Ryder respectively, both gaining their first qualifying certificates.

Christine and Koko just missed their Intermediate due to handler error as did Cohen and I.
I'm sure Cohen was wondering how he could dispatch his handler and find a new one!
We also attempted Advanced yesterday for the first time, he worked honestly and successfully identified 7 of 8 searches.

Entries are now open on the DogsNZ website for our Canine Good Citizen assessment weekend Saturday 31 October and Sunday 1 November.
We will be running Foundation and Bronze on Saturday, Silver and Gold on Sunday.
These assessments take a lot of organising and require a group of volunteers to help with the various exercises across all levels.
If you can help in any way, we would love to hear from you.
For those not entering, it is a great way to learn how these events run and to support those working with their dogs.
Please speak to your instructor or a committee member if you can help us.

Wow what a weekend for the taupo dog training clubs rally O teams. Doing us proud.
Rally O has a strong focus on relationship and bonds between dog and handler and it shows for these guys and there results.
Congratulations to you all.

Vicki and Cohen swapped the obedience ring for the rally O ring for the very first time with outstanding results. 2 rounds resulting in 2 qualifying certificates.

Day 1 ..2 qualifying rounds
Day 2 ..2 wins with maximum scores of 100.

Christine and beau
3 qualifying rounds, resulting in a 3rd place and 2 2nd places.

Christine and koko
3 qualifying rounds and a first place.

So so proud of you all.
Looks like the Rally O instructor needs to run an advanced class in the very near future, as these teams work there way up the levels.

Term 3 puppy class and basic obedience. Week 3 sees a blustery but fine day for handlers and canines to show off there skills they have learnt so far. Thankyou to Liz and Amanda for giving up your time to continue to teach and encourage these teams.
