🐑 Lambs, lambs everywhere! 🐑

Such a special time of year, watching our rural kids take on the job of rearing their pet lambs. 💕 There’s plenty of feeding, cuddles, mischief and learning along the way!

We’re lucky enough to have quite a few little woolly visitors through our clinics at this time of year, and our VetPlus team absolutely love getting amongst it — making both the lambs and their young owners feel right at home.

We’re not sure who enjoys the visits more… the kids, the lambs, or our team! 🐑❤️

Meet the VetPlus Team: Emma

Emma is one of our companion animal vets based at VetPlus Taupō. These days she enjoys the convenience of town life, although she has also tried the lifestyle block thing before, so she knows both sides well.

Emma has lived and worked across a fair stretch of New Zealand, including Auckland, Palmerston North, Wellington, Christchurch, the Bay of Plenty and Hawke’s Bay, before becoming part of the VetPlus Taupō team.

One of the things Emma enjoys most about VetPlus is the camaraderie within the team, the fun that happens behind the scenes, and the chance to chat with clients. Although, she admits that enjoying a good conversation can sometimes make staying on time a bit of a challenge.

Routine surgery is Emma’s favourite day of the week. She enjoys the hands-on nature of surgery and the satisfaction of helping pets through procedures that make a real difference to their health and comfort.

Outside of work, Emma loves reading, stitching and eating. Life with two kids and a springer spaniel keeps things fairly busy, but she still enjoys finding time for the things she loves when she can.

Keep an eye out each week as we introduce more of the people behind VetPlus.

VetPlus is proud to have once again sponsored Reporoa Rugby JAB this season! 💚🏉
We’ve been supporting JAB for many years, and it’s always great to be involved and watch the players grow in confidence and skills throughout the season.
We also enjoyed getting stuck in at Community Day, on the BBQ tools and cooking up lunch for everyone! 🌭🔥
A big thank you to all the players, coaches, managers, parents and volunteers who make the season happen.
We’ve loved being part of it – see you all again next season! 🏉

Meet the VetPlus Team: Issabella

Issabella is one of our large animal veterinary technicians with VetPlus Rural Rotorua. She lives just outside Ngongotahā with her partner Dillin.

Originally from Airdrie, Alberta in Canada, Issabella started her veterinary career working in a small animal and exotics emergency clinic. In 2021, she made the move to New Zealand, partly to be closer to family and partly to leave those -30°C Canadian winters behind.

At VetPlus, Issabella enjoys the variety that comes with animal care. Her work can take her from production animals on farm through to dogs and cats in clinic, and she loves seeing the difference that good care can make throughout an animal’s lifetime.

One of the things she enjoys most is being part of that bigger picture, helping animals stay healthy, supporting clients, and seeing the positive impact of practical, thoughtful veterinary care.

Outside of work, Issabella enjoys Pilates, a well-earned coffee, and spending time with her horse Brian (and partner Dillin). She also loves camping, four-wheel driving, and relaxing at the bach when she gets the chance.

Keep an eye out each week as we introduce more of the people behind VetPlus.

Last chance for our Senior Pet Wellbeing promotion!

Our Senior Pet Wellbeing campaign finishes 31 August, so there’s still time to book your senior pet in for their Health & Wellbeing Check.

If your dog is 7+ or your cat is 9+, a senior check can help us identify subtle health changes early and make sure they’re staying happy, healthy and comfortable as they get older.

Don’t put those little changes down to “just getting older”.

Call our team on 0800 VETPLUS to book.

Available at VetPlus Rotorua & VetPlus Taupō.

Senior Pet Wellbeing promotion ends 31 August 2026. Terms and conditions apply.

Happy all round – vet, farmer, cow and calf!

It’s a busy time of year for our large animal vets and dairy farmers, and just like us, sometimes cows need a helping hand when it’s time to calve.

Shauna was on hand to assist with the safe delivery of this beautiful calf, and we’re pleased to say it was a happy outcome for everyone! 🐄💕

A healthy calf, a happy cow, a relieved farmer and a very happy vet! What more could you ask for?

Meet the VetPlus Team: Liza Macartney

Liza is based at our Rotorua Rural office and is one of the friendly voices you may speak to when you call the team, or one of the welcoming faces you may see when you walk through the door. She lives rurally and is part of the Ngakuru community.

A country girl through and through, Liza has lived on the same property since she was 11 and has now built her own home on part of that land. While she has travelled and spent time living in Japan, she says she is far too much of a country girl to be away from open space and animals for too long.

One of Liza’s favourite parts of working at VetPlus is interacting with clients and doing the best she can to help them. She enjoys being part of the rural team and supporting the people and animals that make up the wider farming community.

Outside of work, Liza has plenty to keep her busy. She enjoys running, mountain biking, kayaking, horse riding, exploring, playing classical guitar, baking, gardening and looking after her collection of goats.

Meet the VetPlus Team: Laurie Newall

Laurie is part of our VetPlus Taupō team, working in a nursing role within the pet department. Based in Taupō C*D, she enjoys being part of a busy clinic where no two days are quite the same.

Laurie was born in New Caledonia and moved to New Zealand when she was 12. She grew up in the Whanganui-Manawatū region before heading to Palmerston North, where she completed her Bachelor of Veterinary Technology qualification.

One of the things Laurie loves most about VetPlus is the team culture. To her, VetPlus feels like family, with everyone working together and patient care at the heart of what they do.

Outside of work, Laurie and her family spend as much time outdoors as they can. With two busy boys in tow, Taupō is the perfect place to call home, giving them plenty of space for adventures, fresh air and family time.

Keep an eye out each week as we introduce more of the people behind VetPlus.
