A sad day at Fernbrooke today as we said 'Goodbye' to Baby. After 19 years the arthritis in her legs and hips meant she could no longer stand and the hard decision had to be made. I buried her at the back of 'her' paddock where she can keep an eye on us all. Baby was an exceptional cow with a placid nature and a gentle manner. She gave rides to literally 100s of small children and never hurt one of them. So long as she had a bucket of Palm Kernel she would happily give rides all day. She has been a much loved part of our family and we will miss her- badly. RIP Baby. We loved you.

Birthday Celebration!
This Waitangi weekend the Forgotten World Museum will be holding its’ annual Open days for the public. This coincides with the 94th birthday of its’ founder, Murray McCartie. Murray hopes to be on site to chat with visitors- health permitting. The Museum will be open 1-4pm, Sat, Sunday & Monday of Waitangi weekend. Entry is free and Devonshire teas will be served at 2pm Monday afternoon, outside the museum, if the sun is out. There is ample grass parking beside the museum and plenty of room for a picnic. The museum is located at Fernbrooke Farm, 393 Pembroke Road and showcases early settler activity in the Tahora/ Whangamomona area. Bring your Grandparents and allow them to share their memories as you look through this interesting display together. Everyone is welcome!

So we are setting out on a new adventure here at Fernbrooke. The Amusement Park is over and we have opened a museum. Called 'The Forgotten World Museum', it follows the history of the Eastern Taranaki region- Whangamomonia, Tahora, Tangarakahu etc. This is Murray McCartie's collection of local history, in a new home. Come and see what life was like in the backblocks 100 years ago. Our first Public opening is Waitangi Weekend- Sunday 12-3pm and Monday 10-3pm. Gold coin entry. Picnic tables and Baby is retired and lives in the museum paddock. She can still give rides to small children. For this first opening weekend Wendy is putting on Devonshire teas. In the future we will be open for small groups by appointment. Ph 0272 162 564 to book a viewing after this weekend. I will be starting a page for the museum in a day or two. Like & follow it if you are interested in local history or think you may wish to visit in the future. Dave & Wendy Hunger
