There are some patients who remind you just how much ingenuity, determination and a whole lot of love can make a difference. ❤️🐾

Meet Maru and his owner, Koro.

Maru suffered a badly broken leg, and because of his age and some other health issues, surgery wasn’t really a good option. Instead, we’ve been managing him with splinting — and Koro has gone above and beyond to help Maru through his recovery.

After a few trips to Bunnings and the $2 shop, Koro came up with this fantastic little setup to help Maru stand, move around and importantly, get himself to the toilet. It’s a true practical, ingenious and very cleverly put together piece of equipment!

And, most importantly, it seems to be helping.

What started as a nasty fracture in a challenging patient is now looking like a recovery that is progressing really well. While there are many factors involved, I would put a huge amount of Maru’s improvement down to the incredible home care and dedication Koro has given him.

Koro is also just a genuinely lovely guy who has clearly gone to enormous lengths to give his mate the best chance possible.

Well done, Koro!👏❤️ And good boy, Maru — keep up the good work! 🐶

Did you know your pet’s microchip needs to be registered to help bring them home? 🐾

A microchip is only the first step. If your pet’s chip isn’t registered, or your contact details aren’t up to date, it can make it much harder to reunite you if they ever go missing.

The New Zealand Companion Animal Register (NZCAR) is New Zealand’s national companion animal microchip register. It links your pet’s microchip number with your contact details, helping vets, councils, shelters and other authorised users identify lost pets and reconnect them with their families.

Whether you have a new puppy or kitten, or your pet has been part of your family for years, it’s worth checking their details are correct.

📣Meet Zac, the newest member of our team!🎊

Originally from Auckland, Zac recently completed his veterinary degree down in Palmerston North before coming to work with us at Central City Vets.

In his free time, Zac enjoys playing hockey, getting outside in nature, and hanging out with his two dogs, Carby and Stretch.

Zac is looking forward to meeting you and your animals in the coming months, and we’re delighted to have him on board!
